Cropping and docking
Started By
We all know about cropping and docking. Many years ago, it had a purpose. Now, it's tradition and a fashion trend. So is cropping and docking ethical? How about on Alacrity? Is it just pixels, or does it encourage cropping and docking in real life?

Please remain civil and mature. Thank you. :)

(I know its old but I'd like to throw in my 2 cents)

Honestly, I support it. I own a Boxer so right there is an example that I'm ok with it, his tail is docked.

I'm ok with cropping, its the owner's choice to crop(or dock) their dog. It doesn't affect you in any way. Dogs with cropped ears don't have a problem with it, they get used to it and don't know any different. I know a pit with cropped ears(and hers were cropped with scissors she is an ex fighting dog) and she is perfectly fine with you touching them she doesn't care at all. Sometimes the dog has to be docked or cropped. Some people like to follow tradition and stick true to what the dogs looked like when the breed was created.

However for in game, its completely different you don't have to experience the posting of ears and wrapping the tail.

I don't support it unless it is in a situation where an undocked tail could harm the dog (like hunting). I do agility frequently in real life and I know for a fact that aussies without a docked tail often perform better: they have more balance and coordination. Someone mentioned plastic surgery, I don't agree with that either so I don't see why dogs should have it. However, as I already said I have no problem with it if it is for health reasons. One thing I don't like, though, is that ASCA has made tails a fault in the confirmation ring : (

Iiiiiiiiim on the fence.
I'm one of "those people" who supports cropping/docking dogs for appearance. Some breeds just look nicer in my opinion with cropped or docked parts. Dobermans for example look great with cropped ears.
I also support it for the medical reasons that others have already brought up. I'm assuming people don't realize that dogs sometimes have to have their hind dewclaws removed as puppies because they have the tendency to get caught on things?

There isn't anything wrong with cropping or docking a dog. It can improve a Dog's performance in hunting especially or other sports. Some breeds are better off with their tails docked, and medical issues can be good reason for cropping and docking. As long as it is done by a professional vet, and not a backyard breeder with some rubber bands, I couldn't see anything wrong with it. Humans get plastic surgery, and for years so have dogs.

The first time I heard about cropping and docking was in 'Black Beauty' and it sounded absolutely horrible; however , like Crevan said, if it is done properly, it doesn't hurt the dog. That is the best/ ideal situation if it has to be done.

I agree with docking. Sporting dogs, I know hunting for sure, still need their tails docked. Hunting dogs can injure their tails while in the field, especially on rougher terrain.

When done properly, through a vet, I do not see the harm in it. Both of my dogs have docked tails and they do not know the difference, nor care about their lack of a tail, in fact it's nicer on everyone because I have had dogs with tails before and they can cause some damage to more than themselves xD I have also heard of pit bulls hurting their tails from wagging them and hitting them against walls (though I do not see pit bulls docked very often).

In game, it doesn't matter. They are not living creatures and if someone thinks that they can apply alacrity things to real life... then that is kind of sad in my opinion, lol. Alacrity is for fun, so if you like the look of cropping then go for it :3

I don't know much about cropping or docking. I don't think it makes a difference on the game, its just pixels. I don't see why it should matter. Saying that it influences cropping or docking is like saying video games encourage violence. Eh, to me pixels are pixels and this is just a game. *shrugs*
