The Lost

The gate down the alley way shook, and Azylen knew exactly what it was. The human coming to hit him again, his muzzle standing between that wretched being and shy teeth. He paced anxiously on his short chain, his two year old leather collar breaking down from the outdoor weather and strain from tug. His used to be silver water bowl, now green stained from rain water, is knocked over upside down so as to avoid the smell of dirty water. His food bowl, rotted with black spots and dirt, empty for days. He tugged the opposite direction of the human, his owner and master. His paws clung to every brick of the street, almost bleeding with the friction, very raw. He tugged and tugged as the human neared, a short and thin stick in his hand. Azylen barked and howled, halted by his collar and chain, and then suddenly he was running. Down the alleyway and up and over a short chain link fence. He was on the move, not stopping till he was out of breath and heaving. The weather got nasty, pouring rain as soon as he got out four blocks down into a neighborhood of trailer homes. He ducked under the porch, curling under the steps for protection. He pawed at his muzzle, trembling and alone, but free.

Sasha sat down and began to think. Her nose could be playing tricks on her, maybe the rain and scents from everywhere were misleading, afterall there were other dogs in the neighborhood . Sasha sighed in frustration and decided to poked her head out from the protection of the porch roof, or so called the sky barrier. <br /> 'Maybe someone is here...'<br /> Sasha leaned in over the first step and balanced her weight on the step so that she wouldn't fall over. With the rain running down her ears and neck her fur bristled. <br /> "Uh...hello?" She called out. "I wont bite you, I promise." Sasha leaned in a bit more and tried to see if there was another dog. 'Maybe I should just walk under the porch..yet again..' Sasha thought.

Azylen stayed motionless, ears laid back and muscles tense to run again. He couldn't fight, the muzzle was still on. He was starving too, and far too weak to outrun another dog, especially one of health. He shrank back, without speaking.

Sasha quietly looked through the small window of her masters trailer home. The rain that was pouring in gave Sasha goosebumps as she looked back at her reflection in the rain dropped covered glass. <br /> "Looks like a terrible storm is on its way, right Sasha?" Her master questioned though softly chuckled as she remembered that dogs couldn't talk. Sasha simply nodded her head in a kind of understanding, with that Sasha left her master to do finish up her preparation of the small meal she was preparing for the two. Walking around the cozy trailer home Sasha gave a yawn here and there while passing up a small room where she found a lazy cat named SnowBall snuggled up in one of the small chairs. The home was small yet charming, and quite nice, though it wasn't your fancy castle type of living. Sasha padded along the smooth oak wood floors until she reached the porch area. Sasha sat by the door and whined loudly to be let out until her master arrived. Luckily she did, though crossed her arms stubbornly, which one of them had a dish towel. <br /> "Alright, alright, out ya go." The woman smiled as she opened the door slightly to the point that the German shepherd could walk through to go outside. Once the door closed quietly Sasha too in a deep breath and layed her head on the porch before she noticed someone was nearby. Sasha followed the scent and stopped near the steps. "Hello?" She whispered in a soft voice in hope she wouldn't scare the unknown visitor.
