i give thanks now to you to but whats done is done and besides i can always change it back :D

If an admin deemed your name to be fine, you shouldn't have to change it. It isn't your problem that some people are choosing to get offended over a word and behaving as though you just kicked a puppy in front of them. There was absolutely nothing offensive about your username.

ok guys the names changed i dont get why a username should become such a big deal but any way i changed my name as you can see and this debate chould be finish to all who read this and my new user name- wich i dont really like-if you like it and i would like to say thanks to:
everafter
alygater
quagga
shadow wolf
and whisper for there support on keeping my name and i wold like to say again that my name is changed for those who forgot.

Wow. I just read this and all I want to say is that I was horrified and disgusted that Dark shredded that Bible in that person's face.
What was so hard about just letting it drop to the ground?
I was brought up in a Free Presbyterian household to Born Again Christians and have a minister brother. I am gay and live with my boyfriend, so I don't have the right, as my parents and brother see it, to defend Christianity, but never would I dream of ripping up the Bible or Q'uran or any other religious literature. I just...can't get my head round that at all.
I'm shocked.

As for having God mentioned in names, I don't think it should be allowed. Same with politics and sexual orientation. Such subjects are too controversial and are likely to offend.

Also, someone in chat told House of Hanover that if the parents of a 14 year old didn't like their child seeing that kind of thing (sexual orientation), they shouldn't let their kid onto the net. I feel that's unfair. Why should such kids be kept offline? Games like this are supposed to be safe environments for everyone, are they not?

Well I don't see it as a bad thing for having it that for a name. Basically it's the same as me putting I believe in something. That's fine, awesome. It's when I get this from someone:

My God is the only one: believe in that, or perish!

Now that is something I would be conserned in. Please do not force your religion onto others. Sharing what you believe in is fine.

Oh,Extreamly sorry,I thought it meant the belife of god being re-born. XD As for the usernames,no it isn't hurting anyone is it?

This is the second request to keep this debate civil. Keep the debate on topic: Religion in user names.

A third incident will cause this thread to be locked.

07-27-2011 at 3:06 AM
Eh. To each his own.

When I see a username with 'god' in it that's flaunting enough for me. Be it good or bad, is not much of a name more so it's a statement or trying to make a point.

Religion is touchy business. I myself am not huge on the username but if the admins are fine with it then whatever floats their boat.

07-27-2011 at 3:05 AM
Just for the record, this topic is about debating religion in usernames, NOT religion itself. I asked about what this was, earlier.

"Quagga, it's a religious thing. We got in a little fight about Our God is rising's name and it changed into this huge thing. We're continuing it here because we can't keep it in chat."

I don't mean to mini-mod, but the title can be misleading. I only want to clarify. I'm sorry if this is considered min-modding.

My God is Rising (Such a long name xD), in our religion, we can view it as trying to help. However, they have different beliefs, and to them, our attempts at "saving" them only gets obnoxious and excessive. It's the equivalent of them telling us that our religion is wrong, and them trying to convert us; we are doing the exact same thing but with (sometimes) different words. There is still a point where we must respect other people's decisions and opinions.

I still feel that a name like "My God is Rising" sounds a bit like... you're flaunting... er, something, not sure what. It just sounds like avoiding religion in usernames in general could clear up a whole lot of potential issues; then you don't have to state what is allowed and what isn't, there are no "martyrs," and no feelings of being picked on.

07-27-2011 at 2:46 AM
i wasnt trying to convert anyone when i said that i was just stating.

07-27-2011 at 2:43 AM
ok guys let me say something...
In the bible it states that all who dont beleive will beg for mercy or die of disease, murder, starvation, drought, and much more and all who do beleive will be tooken up by the hand of god BUT, but, but, butbut that will all be after the name of jesus is heared by all and they are working on doing that in other countrys and god DID give us free will there are only 2 inteligent creatures in this universe angels and humans god gave both ( i think) free will, like satan, he was a fallen angel and still is... for he thought he could over power god so he gathered a hull bunch of angels who thought the same and they all fell into the fiery pits of whats now called hell where satan and his demons now live and roam now tortureing people.
see i did my bible studys and my point is that people are just trying to help when they try and convert you because they dont want you to burn or die painfully of some unknown disease they dont want to hurt you nor do they want to make you mad they just want to help [edited by mod]

I see nothing wrong with it. It is clearly not stuffing anything down anyone's throat. If it was talking about trying to convert you or something of the sort then yes there could be an issue but nothing in "my god is rising" says anything about trying to convert anyone.

07-27-2011 at 2:02 AM
I don't think god is "rising" only that man is falling. Like Darksong I am Wiccan,I belive I made that choice myself no one gave me my free will,I took it myself. I'm tired of people telling my I'm going to hell. In my belifes I wont,in your belifes I will. But,for aurguments sake, arn't all the "sins" you preach of natural human behavior. Ecpecaly the 7 deadly sins. This isn't a personal attack on your belifes, but simply a question to see how you see them,so I can be more open minded.

Please remember that debates are to be kept civil and bashing users and their religion (or lack there of) is inappropriate behavior.

07-26-2011 at 11:03 PM
Then forgive me for misunderstanding.

Some people are very judging, and sometimes even hate those of certain religions. It's like being racist, only the difference is that openly bashing religion is more likely than openly bashing colored people. Also, stereotyping. Think of the image Christians have achieved - being religious folk who tend to shove their religion down other people's throats... I think it's partially stereotyping, as well. And when you hear someone with different beliefs, there are bound to be people who roll their eyes because it's "another person tricked and lied into a false religion."

It just sounds like there's so much potential hostility when religion is spoken of. Sure, there are people who are tolerant of it. But then there are those who simply... aren't.

07-26-2011 at 10:43 PM
I think you may have missed what I was trying to get at when I said that. But I will just drop it and get to the topic at hand...

I don't understand what everybody is so offended about with the username issue. Ideally, a user should be able to state their religious beliefs, or even lack thereof, in their username as long as it isn't done in an antagonistic fashion (such as "god doesn't exist" or "all non-believers will burn").

But because people like to be "PC", or just start throwing fits over it because they claim they're so "offended", perhaps forbidding it is necessary.

07-26-2011 at 10:22 PM
To start, I would like to call myself a Christian, but my behavior does not seem appropriate to be called a Christian. So, I insist I have Christian beliefs, but I feel that it's very wrong for me to say that I am a Christian...

I just have to respond to this bit. It's been quite a bit of time since the post, I've taken a bit long to type, but... I have to respond with this, I haven't seen anyone use this excuse before.

"Well, this is just typical religion. When asked to explain their stance, they come up with excuses as to why it can't be explained."

Because you asked us, for one! I might add another excuse, though I realize it isn't necessarily a reasonable excuse for EVERYTHING...
The first Bible would have been acceptable; God spoke through the authors. However, it is the translations that I feel might affect part of these "contradictions" and whatnot. Mistranslations are inevitable, eventually, when going from one language to another; man is imperfect.

Anyways. I'm not offended or anything here, but it feels like a few of these comments might sound a bit like bashing... Can I request we get off it, get back to the actual topic of debate?

I'm not sure of my position in this debate...

In one sense, I feel that religion should not be included in usernames; it might almost sound like you're being proud, stating that you follow "this" religion, and how wonderful a person you are for doing so. Not to mention, some people have a tendency to avoid those of religions who do not agree with theirs. And while this is a more preferred action, others will go further to attack the person, whether it's obvious, behind their back, etc.

In this sense I feel that, for the sake of preventing hostility towards players, it shouldn't be allowed.

And yet... There is a certain freedom of speech required at some places; the person is not afraid to state who they are, and it can turn into martyrdom should "the man" refuse to allow their freedom of religion. It just feels nice to be in a place where you can speak freely of your beliefs - though, I'm afraid I can't say that I feel like I can speak freely without being judged. If you take away the freedom of religion in a username, it kind of feels a bit like you're being judged, and as if it's unfair.

I'm kind of leaning more towards the "No, no religion in usernames." But, I just can't seem to choose.

07-26-2011 at 10:19 PM
And same for mine.
And yes, He let you do what you want. That's what free will is, duh. You beleive what you want, I beleive what I want. We'll see who was right in the end, and it may be you and it may be me or it may be Mockery or Roo or anybody else. Something is right, and one day, we'll all find out.

07-26-2011 at 10:16 PM
Ummm yah, they probably had plants that caused Hallucinations.
oh and 'god' allowed me to make the decision to be Wiccan? Oh, let me just run out and praise him right now just for allowing that. seriously. I am not controlled by anyone and I worship the Goddess. If you think i'm going to hell for that, let it be. but Goddess will reward me for my loyalty ^_^ and not by 'allowing' me not to be punished for any 'sins'. To me, my religion makes a hell of a lot more sense then yours.
