Featuring the background: Blossoming Forest Background.
Featuring the companion: Nuzzling Tortie Manx Cat.
Halley walked slowly through the grove, head held high as she regarded the falling blossoms. The unicorn dog had made a wreath from some of the blossoms which grew in this part of the forest so that she might have their scent about her constantly. This grove of flowers and beauty was hers to protect, to love, and it also came with its perks.
Sometimes she had to wonder what it would be like to see the wide world, even for a little while.....but she knew that this small grove of paradise needed a caretaker and guardian. Halley could never leave it even for a few days. Perhaps if she had a companion in this place, someone to keep her company.....surely that would sate the longing for something more, since Halley was fairly sure that she was simply lonely. Exploring would allow her to meet other creatures.
A soft sound jolted her from her reverie. It was certainly an odd sound, amidst the rustling of the leaves, the breeze, and the bird song which filled the grove. Halley could have sworn that she had heard mewing. She pricked up one ear when she heard it again.
Yes, that was most certainly the sound of a cat. The unicorn dog padded over to where she thought the sound was coming from. To her great surprise, there was indeed a cat behind one of the stones, with her paw caught between a stone and a fallen tree limb. Perhaps the feline had been trying to reach something in the crevice. Whatever the case, she was well and truly caught between a rock and a hard place, as the saying went.
Halley walked over slowly, ignoring how the cat hissed and spat at her. “Oh, shush, you! Be still and let me help,” she said firmly.
The cat quieted her protest. Halley deftly knocked the branch to one side with her paw, freeing her forelimb. The unicorn dog was surprised when the feline nuzzled her leg in return. She was a rather scruffy thing, and in obvious need of grooming, but seemed to have a personable nature.
“You’re welcome,” Halley murmured before turning to walk away.
The cat followed at her heels, purring happily. The guardian of the grove found herself rather hoping that the scruffy feline she had just rescued would stay. She seemed friendly enough, and already things seemed just a bit less quiet despite the cat not having said a word as of yet. That could have simply been how loud she was purring, but Halley didn’t think it was just that.
No, now the grove had more life to it, the aspect of life which she had been missing.
