Cosmic Pathway paused as she stared out among the ‘stars’ before her. Each one was a spark of an idea, the birth of creativity, not truly a star at all. In this universe of dream and thought they were worth so much more than some distant, blazing ball of gas. Nor were these anything like stars in any other way than appearance, those glistening little trinkets in the night sky to be wished upon frivolously.

No, each of these glowing pinpricks of light were ideas and dreams in the making. The pit bull terrier was the guardian of this place, along with her companion. Sometimes she had to keep the dragon in line, when he went to devour the spark of a thought which was beneficial. His job was to eat the ones which would do no good and were detrimental. Obviously he could not eat all of them, nor could the duo filter all of these gleaming sparks. But the two of them did their best, for what else could they do?

“Hey, don’t eat that one!” Cosmic Pathway yelped in reprimand when she saw one that her comrade was trying to munch on behind her back. “We’re leaving that one, it’ll be a good thought.”

“But I’m hungry,” the dragon whined, staring at the star. “And it looks like such a good one.....c’mon, just once?”

Cosmic Pathway rolled her eyes. “No, not even just this once!” she said disapprovingly before moving on to inspect some of the other sparks.

The dragon sighed, glancing at the little spark longingly. This one looked so good, and it would taste so much better than the ones he normally ate.....surely Cosmic Pathway wouldn’t notice.

CHOMP!

In the waking world, a young man threw up his hands in frustration. So much for that good idea he’d had. Or, rather, thought he’d have- it had been fuzzy, and barely there in his thoughts before he got distracted and it vanished.

“What did I say?” Cosmic Pathway admonished.

The dragon shrugged, failing miserably with his attempt at an innocent expression.
