Poll Discussion: Capped Dogs

Please remember if you cannot use respectful language, your post will be edited and you will be written up.

Before you speak here, please be sure to read the news post on 7Aug2013.

We're looking for honest opinions about the options in the polls, and are specifically looking to hear what people with over the capped dogs prefer as their choice.

Edit: Please remember there is no "Just don't do this" option. We will be changing things regarding the Aviator caps, so come up with a solution that isn't one we listed. But please don't just say "Don't do this" as we will not be considering that.

Edit 2: In accordance with admin discussion: Aviator caps will no longer be stackable no matter what, this is not up for debate, but the solution for over the cap dogs is what we are discussing here.

What if the trialing, like the breeding, had a max at 9000. By this, I mean that if a dog with a TP of anything higher than 9000 entered, it would be trialed as if it had 9000 in everything, regardless of its actual TP. This way, it can stay on leader boards.

(Loreebee's Idea of changing the trialing system instead of the TP wouldn't eliminate the problem, just put in on a smaller scale(the dogs with 600tp would still be overwhelmed by those with 1500tp).)

I feel the need to point out that when maxing any dog, the total TP is going to be slightly over 100%. Does this mean Capped Dogs, when maxed will automatically be disqualified, because they are bound to have TP's over 9000?

If we are going to address Items like this, what about prairie dogs or other companions that can slowly raise possible TP(even though they aren't stackable)? Would they need special scripting when it came to capped dogs?

A better idea would to just fix the trial system, so that people can enter in tiers.

Dogs up to 500 TP; from 501 to 1000, from 1001 to 2500, whatever.

That would be a better use of programing time and money, then to take away from the time and effort people have put into creating these dogs.

I don't think anything should be changed. It takes SEVERAL months to build TP using aviator caps.

It doesn't happen overnight.

My only over the cap dog has never even used an aviator cap.

It took several months of planning, careful breeding to get a clean lined dog to the cap, without any double dogs in his lineage. Then the use of several soldier helmets, that I spent several hundred bones on, collecting them for that very purpose when I finally hit the cap in my breeding program.

And, now you would just take that all away?

It is incredibly short sighted. It's just giving in to people who are complaining because they do not YET have what other people have worked so hard to acheive.

To be honest I am pretty happy about this change. Trailing was beginning to be very unfair and I was losing my money rather making it because I don't have any caps. I think it's fair that this change is happening because it's fair for everyone to get a fair chance. I spent a lot of time on training my capped dogs and then I can't win anything when I trail them so it's a waste of my time and my TS and money.

As a note to some questions:

All dogs over capped will be affected, not just dogs who reached this through Aviator caps. However what we're doing is fixing the ability to go over capped level, so all items that do this will have this implemented.

This doesn't mean you cannot use Spring Fawns, Soldier Helmets, etc on below capped dogs to improve their TP up to capped level.

And again, as Larth said, Speed, Drive, and things like Attention Span did affect - and will continue to affect in the new system - trialing in dogs.

Just as a note, you guys, we aren't saying they were glitches. Just that the admins that were around (yes, MYSELF included) when they were implemented didn't see far enough ahead to realize this was going to become such a big problem separating the userbase. :( I'm sorry. I really am sorry we didn't see the issue to begin with and go ahead and change things right away.

Go ahead and get mad at me, whatever. I don't care, frankly. It needs to be fixed.

Also, on the note of speed and drive - those DO (or, er... did? Since we're working on a new trial system... which does count them by the way!) count towards trial scores. They didn't have enough pull to make an OTC dog lose to an under the cap dog, but they were there.

We're sorry that you spent money on getting these items and now you won't be able to use them the way you want to. That is unfortunate, but due to the nature of the beast, it's made things extremely uneven between those who have hoarded the items, and those who have not or are new and have no chance. We're trying to fix this, so that it's fun for everyone - not just for those select few who have managed to stick around for ages. We do appreciate you, and that's why we're working on adding in something for you guys to make up for this issue, but we need you to work with us here. Please, give us some ideas or options other than "Put it back the way it was because I spent money."

I am actually upset to hear this news primarly because I have contacted numerous staff members about the aviator caps and I was told that it wasn't a glitch. I even went back and FOUND the news post and it didnt mention any statements about it being unstackable from what I recall.

I have spent money on aviator caps and I am upset to hear that people who have spent so much are basically having everything torn away from them.

You either

a. Lost everything you worked for by having your dog's TP go back down

or

b. You lose the ability to trial. So essentially all you have is a high TP dog.

I don't feel either of these are necessarily okay to people. I mean, we all knew that some staff, including the admin Jack, were using stacked aviator caps for awhile so why is this coming out now?

Honestly, I'm going with what Aust said.

Can we finally incorporate speed, drive and such into trials?
I know so many people have spend money, ranging from ala cash to ACTUAL money on raising these stats, and yet, they aren't being used.

Alright... being someone who got dogs over the cap without aviator caps (Yes, I have some very high stat dogs that were made that way with magical biscuits, which, by the way, costed millions... I don't even want to know how much I spent).

And yes, I submitted to the hub about biscuits being glitched and I was told it was fine, so no, I was not exploiting a glitch/was not trying to be sneaky. I was told it was fine, and therefore, spent a lot of money on it. I believe people were told the same for aviator caps, that it was a glitch but it was allowed.. they in turn spent many bones and USD on them (I have sold caps for 40 bones before).

For the dogs over the cap, however, it is hard to determine exactly how much went into them/how much was spent, and I'm not sure anyone will be given back what they put into these things. However, I think there needs to be something more. Perhaps a trophy at the top of the dog's page that says the exact number their TP got to under it - that way, people who had dogs over the cap can proudly display these dogs. It would also be nice for the top dog list to remain there, but just have different sections, one in which over the cap dogs can randomly show up in a list so people can still have their accomplishments out there. I think the companion idea should be an item instead (since, companions are hard to use considering just how many we have) of, perhaps, a plushie that says "I was over the cap!" or something like that. It is still hard to say exactly how to compensate people that put all the time/money/effort into these dogs, though. I don't think even these suggestions cover it.

Another idea is to raise the cap to perhaps 15k (which would cover a lot of the over the cap dogs) and dogs over that still can be dropped down to it. Plus, this would open up further breeding for breeds that are already full of capped dogs :)

You know what? Don't do anything about the aviator caps and other TP boosters. Instead, make other factors like speed and weight count towards trial performance as well as TP.

08-7-2013 at 4:13 PM
As someone who has one over the cap(but still uses for trial money) I say just drop them down to the maximum cap. If I lose my best trial dog then my other trial dog will be useless, and I will have lost a hefty ton of cash/bones. If you still want people to know how high your over the cap's stats were, you could always take a screenshot or picture.

08-7-2013 at 4:12 PM
I do not think options 1 and 2 are very fair to those who have spent money (virtual and real!) and time training OTC dogs.

MizzMalfoy has a very good point. What will happen to TP-boosters such as Spring Fawns on capped and OTC dogs. I spent good USD to get my Spring Fawn, knowing she would be useful someday, and that's how I got my dogs over the cap to do better in trials, by sticking my fawn on her.

And honestly, I don't really see the big deal with TP boosters. The big deal is with the cap itself.

As someone who has purchased Soldier Helmets, Aviator Caps, and MWB for my OTC dog, I am pretty bummed out by this change, but I understand it entirely.
I'm kind of leaning towards the first option on the poll because the second option would render the dogs that we spent so much money and bones on, entirely useless.

08-7-2013 at 3:51 PM
I use my AviCap on my customs, it gives a little boost to my pups without the need for chances or perks so i would prefer them to still be able to train past maxing.

Just personal opinion though. ^^

08-7-2013 at 3:50 PM
I have a few questions. How will other items like Spring Fawns, Prairie Dogs, and Soldier Helmets be affected? Will dogs who have used these items have their TP reverted to cap?
And how will trialing affect TP and stats? Will it still give boosts and how will these boosts be affected by the changes?

08-7-2013 at 3:30 PM
Having an over capped dog is fun challenge to train. Many people spent lots of money, time and effort in those dogs so I think the TP status should remain the same. As for the caps I am torn, they are really helpful training high TP dogs especially once you ran out of TS the caps still train them maybe place a new code on them preventing training after the dog is maxed? I think that's part of the problem people keep the caps on capped dogs to help higher stats which eventually highers their TP.

I am in agreeance with Blue

New Idea for How Aviator Caps Could Work

Caps should still be stackable, however, once you max a skill out, the cap can no longer train on that skill. This would cause it to be a more useful tool for training for those that bought a ton of them. I also suggest a small boost to the TP given. Instead of .2 every 4hrs, how about .3-.5 every 4hrs?

Just an idea on how caps could function after this change =)

08-7-2013 at 2:43 PM
Well, many people have worked very hard to breed their dogs to perfection, which is over the cap. Many people would be disappointed to lose all their hard work they put into breeding and training their dogs. But I just think that Aviator Caps should not be allowed to be stacked.

08-7-2013 at 2:40 PM
TP should be unaffected.
I bet members have spent hard earned bones, cash, and USD for bones/items for aviator caps, MWBs, etc. It'd be a shame if those went to waste.

08-7-2013 at 2:39 PM
i think that the dogs should go to the normal capped limit of the dog, I'm sorry if i offended anyone by saying this but this is my opinion
