I support this breed! My first ever dog was a vanilla lab named Dublin ^^.

It would have to be a purebred lab, but even purebreds can have some wacky genetics, after all, all 'purebreds' came from mixes, I don't believe in them..

I remember a lot of uproar about it in a news post or forum post.

Mutts are in fact, not confirmed, they never were. The idea was pitched and added to the wiki, but as of now is on the very very far back burner, if not scrapped completely.

10-6-2011 at 10:41 PM
They've been confirmed. They will just take a long time.

10-6-2011 at 6:38 AM
because they prolly never will?

Why not just wait until Mutts come out? :S

That's my point :P <br /> <br /> Making Lab mixes satisfies those people wanting labs and those wanting mutts. Have you <i>seen</i> some of the dogs labeled as "lab mix" at shelters? They're spotted, brindle, solid, sable and then some. <br /> <br /> I think I'm failing to see how adding Lab mixes (to satisfy those wanting Labs and those wanting Mutts) will result in unrealistic coats... o.O

10-4-2011 at 11:58 AM
these makrings aren't natural either though

10-4-2011 at 11:08 AM
Roo, that's more like the whole upcoming mutt thing. There's no solution to get markings on labs without going unrealistic and crazy.<br /> <br /> Poonie, there are blue GSDs and GSDs with strange markings.<br /> http://www.leabashiba.com/sam.jpg<br /> http://www.leabashiba.com/gsp.jpg

Here's a solution for the lack of markings (and it also takes care of the people who've been wanting "mutts")... Make it a "Lab Mix" - a general Lab-like shape with various markings that can be from different breeds. There are numerous dogs labelled as "Lab Mixes" in shelters across the country, and they have a variety of coat colors and markings, even though they look a lot like Labs. Just an idea ^.^

i dont see the problem of adding a few amrkings for the ones who like to play with makrings on dogs, it might looka but unnatural, but i never seen a REAL GSD who had ablue coat or with these white makings there are for it! So i dont see that problem atall.

No support, sorry. Gamzee has a point.<br /> <br /> Most of the labs would look like clones. The only thing that could fix that is a ton of mismark markings, and even then, they wouldn't have as many markings as other dogs and would still look extremely similar to each other. And people tend to really not like it when one breed doesn't have as many markings as the others. There's no fixing that with labs.<br /> <br /> On top of this, Ala has a ton of breeds already planned with more support. I could maybe see it once those breeds are all handled, but that will be a long, long time in the future.

still they DO have markings

Kat, there would be no point in buying bones for labrador customs because once they hit the foundation auctions, they'll all be white, chocolate, black, yellow, etc. Plain markings. Dogs in the FA are almost always plain so there would be no point in even using the custom tool when there's no markings.

Of course they do, but color doesn't mean anything in agility, so why not add some white and other variations throughout their coat ? It's not like the color will effect their performance in agility. <br /> <br /> "A small white spot, stripe or patch on the chest is very common and does not lessen the quality of a Labrador, nor indicate it is not pure bred. Sparse white hairs can appear on the tips of toes, between the footpads, on the heels, near the groin, and under the neck. However, if white spots are large and white markings are highly noticeable, then this is not typical and could indicate the dog may be mixed with another breed. Scarring can also result in white hairs on a Labrador.<br /> Splashing is described as a black Labrador with tan or yellowish hairs on the legs and sometimes neck and chest. This mis-marking looks as if the black lab ran through a mud puddle and was splashed with muddy water, hence the name “Splashing”. This is a mis-marking that had been noted in the breed for many generations. It does not affect the dogs ability to be an excellent pet or hunting companion."<br /> ~Taken from http://www.ashlandlabradors.net/Labradorcolor.html

Kat, Ala will be adding mutts in the future, but they will not be allowed to trial. Alacrity focuses on purebred dog breeds in agility trials, not mixes.

Support :3 Labs are one of my favorite breeds. Even though people say they may not have markings in real life, I am sure we could mix some patters and throw it all over them :D

True, but there are still so many other color faults, but in agility, purebred doesn't matter at all
