Xylax's Ala style art tutorial! in Admin Updates

Hello! I am your Xylax, and I'd love to present how I try to match Ala's overal art style. I think it would help you guys to understand how to fit your own style a bit more into dog's scenes and make it less differently drawn, if you'd like that!

beware, though! pretty huge jpg!

Don't be afraid to ask questions, if I missed something. I will be sure to make more tutorials in the future :D

Also, answer in advance: I'm using very old Photoshop 8.0, called CS 1. To make sure everyone can access all functions. They can be named differently, but they're in same places.

here's the brush image.

oh wait, I'm sorry, I'm an idiot. I do have a scanner, it's a Brother like yours, but it's used moreso as a printer than anything else. Unfortunately I din't bring it with me to college since I had no use for it since I don't have any writing classes this semester (I haveen't printed a single paper so far).

Look around on sites like Craigslist, you can get one for dirt cheap.
I got mine (really nice one, Brother MFC-240C) for free off Kijiji.

I kinda need to invest in a scanner, I believe :/

However, I do believe hat I'm drawing better on the computer than on paper now, which is a surprise to me. But it easier for me to do skethcces on paper than on the computer.

Another tip could be to draw your art on paper first and then colour it digitally (which is how Hel's art is done)

Here is a tutorial:
1. Scan your image.
2. Take your scanned image and open it up in GIMP (free art program)
3. Go to "COLORS" at the top and down to "COLOR TO ALPHA"
Click "OK" or whatever it asks.
4. Create a NEW LAYER (you should know how to do this if you're even attempting digital art so I'm not going to explain) that is white and put it UNDER your sketch layer.
5. Create a layer ABOVE THE WHITE LAYER and label it "Colours" or something.
6. Colour your image and stay in the lines
7. Erase AROUND the sketch lines to get rid of the scanned paper parts.
8. etc etc done
i am an artist
