Clicker Training
Hello people of Alacrity. I felt like this was the best place to go to. I have my four year old maltese who has been deemed untrainable by my family. We are NOT going to be spending any money on puppy training/obediance.So what did I do? I bought a clicker with some small treats.
What does my dog know already?
His name.
Sit.
Somewhat knows shake.
Somewhat knows lay down.
I do belive he knows to "come" but we don't have a large enough space to practice this again.
I did a half hour of training today which just was me introducing the clicker and the reward system. He learned rather quickly. And he's VERY excitable so he went straight into yelping and jumping mode. I began to begin the "sit" exercises. Since he already knows how to sit, I just reinforced the treat system. Eventually, he waited for me calmly instead of jumping around.
Are there any more specific steps I need to take to make the training more effiecient?
I'm hoping to start "down" next once he manages to learn that when he's going to be presented with a treat to calm down and stop barking.
And then after that I'm hoping to do "come" or "stay."
Thank you! :)
