Cup of Coffee [Private]

Onyx dragged her feet into the coffee shop feeling a little more than drained. Last night had been long and sleepless - searching for employment in the online classifieds had proved to be more challenging and exhausting than she had ever thought possible. She sighed heavily as the aroma of freshly ground arabica coffee gripped her senses and immediately relaxed her. She took a short moment to have a look around and take in the atmosphere. She had been here many times before, but somehow this place never lost it's charm. In the far right corner there was an older dalmatian calmly reading the paper with his legs crossed; his front paws delicately rested on the tabletop in an eloquent pose... And then in the center of the shop a couple of teenaged tabby cats laughed hysterically as one of them did her best owl impersonation. Onyx couldn't help but smile... She often found herself laughing at conversations that she wasn't involved in. She was snapped out of her little reverie when the cashier at the till was ready to take her order. "And what can I get for you today, hun?" Onyx blinked a couple times. What was she there for again? Right! Coffee. "Oh, uh... I'll get a medium double double and a glazed doughnut." The cashier smiled brightly and beamed "Sure thing, hon! Just give it a second - we've got a fresh pot brewin' as we speak." Onyx nodded awkwardly. "Uh... Sure, thanks." When she had paid for her little piece of heaven, she found a seat at the far right of the cafe - far enough away from the snickering tabbies that she could hear herself think. She draped her coat over one of the 4 chairs at the table and then got settled. She glanced out the window into the parking lot and sighed. She could just barely see her reflection in the glass. Her violet eyes glimmered back at her and she smiled absent mindedly. If there was one feature of hers that she liked, it was her eyes. She turned her focus back to her table and noticed a newspaper laying there, discarded and lonely. It was just the boring local news, but she decided that since it was right there, she would read it. She flipped it open to the classifieds and immediately regretted ever doing so. An exasperated groan escaped her as she flung the dejected paper back onto the table and took the first sip of her morning coffee.

Onyx nodded in agreement and then replied "I know exactly what you mean... Though in my case it's hard enough to find relevant listings let alone handing out resumes. I don't even know where to apply!" She sighed exasperatedly, staring down into her murky morning revival potion. <br /><br />"You know... This is stupid. All I want is to be able to get a job and make some money... And it's not even about the money, you know? I just want to do something with myself." She cast a nasty look at the discarded newspaper. "Good luck trying to find anything in that piece of sh*t. I can't even believe what they have ads for. 'Seeking female companion, will pay $200 per visit!' Someone's desperate." She giggled a little and took another sip of her coffee. <br /><br /> "I've been good, I guess... Feeling a bit run down by all this anxiety over finding a job... I suppose in the grand scheme of things it's 'not a big deal', but come on... Seriously? Of course it is. Everyone who doesn't have a job is looked down upon. Careful, f*ckers, it might just be contagious!" She wiggled her fingers in the air jokingly. "Unemployment... I'm tellin' ya. We're all gonna die from it in the end."
Sitka smiled and sat down, accidentally sitting on her tail uncomfortably and jumping back up for a second to rearrange it. "I'm full of class today too, it would seem, haha. I've been pretty good, the job hunt is going slowly. Seems like all I do is send resumes and hope that someone even reads them." She took a slurp of her drink. "How have things been going with you?"
Onyx watched in calm contemplation as the two tabbies left the coffee shop. As they hurriedly picked up their coats and scarves, she wondered why on earth they felt the need to be rushing so much. She sighed, realizing that she'd never fully understand how society functioned. Her strange little train of thought was interrupted by a familiar voice. "Onyx! Hi!" She glanced up to see her best friend Sitka approaching her table. "Sitka! Hey! How have you been?" She kicked a chair out from under the table with her foot and motioned Sitka to have a seat. "Classy way to pull out a chair, I know... I just don't feel like getting up." Onyx laughed a little.
Sitka walked down the sidewalk absentmindedly, trying to think of what to do, since her job search had hit a standstill- or rather, a sit and wait, and pray that someone calls back. The hypnotic scent of fresh coffee brewing suddenly filled her nose, and she decided to grab a cup and relax inside for a bit. She liked this little coffee shop, it was small and comfy without the pretentiousness of most places. <br /><br />She walked up to the counter, and the grinning cashier said "What'll it be today?" Sitka smiled, "Large cinnamon mocha, please." She glanced over at the array of muffins and pastries but decided against one, thinking about her thighs with concern. <br /><br />Sitka took the steaming mug and was both disappointed and secretly delighted at the presence of whipped cream. She went and sat herself down in one of the cushy armchairs farther back in the cafe and was about to take a slurp of the melting whipped cream when she noticed a familiar figure..<br /><br />"Onyx! Hi!" She beamed, getting up and walking over to a table near the back.
