weird periods
Started By
Oh god where to begin x.x its been going on since December of 2011. i have my last regular period then. after the it SKIPED basically two moths and i didn't have it again till leap day (feb, 29th). then it again skipped and in June i only spotted. usually its spots the first day and then bled heavy the next two days..start to end then starts again for another day of heck x.x. but this time it never really started. i usually go through a whole box of super tampons on my period. this time i used pads the whole time and maybe one or two tampons. it went on like that for a week.
any suggestions on what it could be. i did have sex in the middle of march...but it was right after my period in feb/march.. i couldn't be pregnant??..also note i am a big girl..i'm over 200 pounds(x.x) well over weight for my age and height

Other problems also are falsely diagnosed as PCOS...ultrasound testing for PCOS is more reliable than the blood test (though they usually want to do the blood test first). Thyroid conditions can cause similar problems, as can adrenal gland problems.

Personally I'm still in the middle of testing between all this myself.

Good luck to you.

My period was irregular as well for 3 years.
I'd go up to 4 months without a period. It was very nerve wracking when you start unexpectedly bleeding.

However I was put on birth control at age 17 to settle my period down and to help my skin clear up. (I had VERY bad acne in high school.)

Here I am 5 years later with regular 3-day periods, my skin is 130x better than I had ever thought and my PMSing is not as scary.

I would talk to your mother about seeing the doctor. Irregular periods happen to a LOT of kids and most settle down naturally, however if you are like me, hormones help tons!

What you are describing sounds like PCOS. I have it and basically all it means is your body doesn't ovulate the way it should so you either don't have periods at all or you have them very irregularly (and they are usually either super heavy or very light flow). Check with your doctor to get tested. Being on birth control can help but there are other treatments available.

You would have a noticeable bump if you were 4 mos pregnant. I would contact your doctor about ovarian cysts or something

I didn't have a period for five months :( But then again it was due to stress and the fact I had to go from living in a house that I had been to so many times to a 25 ft trailer. I was a part of a six person family :) Now I don't have to worry about it since I get my shot now :)

It's not a peroid, it's spotting, all the professions will tell you it's spotting, When you are pregnat, you do NOT oviulate

I had my first period when I was 13. Durring the next 3 years until I was 16 I only had about 12 to 15 periods when I should have had 36. The longest time between periods was 11 months. I never had more than 2 periods in a row without skipping. I was told by my doctor that this was normal since my body was adjusting. After that time I went on the pill for the next 10 years because I was sexually active. This also had the bonus of correcting my periods. I have been off birth control for the last 5 months and while the times vary (any where from 30 to 40 days between periods) I have had periods every month. This is the first time I have had that many in a row without medication.

There are many different factors that will affect you periods. How long ago did you start having them? It is not unusual to take anywhere from 3 to 5 years for periods to even out. Weight and diet will also affect the timing of your period.

As for being pregnant, yes it is possible to have bleeding while pregnant. Also most ovulation (the time when a woman can get pregnant) happens about 2 weeks after the first day of your period. (On average if your cycle is around the average 28 days.) I would suggest a pregnancy test and talking to your doctor.

Actually Clay you can have your period while pregnant. My mother had hers for 5 months into the pregnancy of my sister. It's rare but it happens. It just wasn't as heavy as a normal period but it wasn't as light as spotting.

The longest I've gone without a period is 18 months. But I also have PCOS and a cyst on both my ovaries. I would get it looked at and try to get an ultrasound to check it out.

I'd definitely go to a doctor and get it checked out.

I also need to go, but mainly because mine are so heavy and I get cramps so bad that I have to take 4 advil at a time to get myself better. :/

If you were pregnant, you wouldn't be having your period at all.
I would seriously go to the doctor, periods with this much irregularity isn't normal. It could be something serious like a cyst on an ovary (happened to my sister's friend)
I apologize that I can't help more, I'm a male and my knowledge of this subject is limited because I learn what I know from my sister, my female friends or quick research for my sister. :(
