Q5 oil consumption, is this normal or should I be worried?
Started By
My 2017 Q5 has started drinking oil at a rate that doesn't feel right. I'm topping it up every few weeks now, maybe half a litre each time, and there's no visible leak on the ground where I park. I've read horror stories about the 2.0 TFSI engines burning oil and needing piston work, which would be a nightmare financially. Before I panic I want to get it properly checked by someone who understands these engines rather than a general garage that'll just tell me it's normal. I came across royalprinceautocare.com/brands/audi while looking for someone local and it seems like they deal with Audis specifically, which is more reassuring than a generic workshop. Has anyone here dealt with oil consumption on their Audi and what did it turn out to be? I'm hoping it's something simple like a PCV valve or a seal, but I want to know what the realistic outcomes are before I go in for a diagnostic. Also is there anything I should be monitoring in the meantime so I don't cause damage while I figure this out.
