I'm sure anyone reading this has, at some point, been in a so-called 'natural' wolf roleplay where they became extremely irritated with the lack of wolf knowledge, the rainbow, mystical-powered 'sparklewolves', and the 'it's all about me' attitudes of their so-called peers. I know I sure have. So, I'm starting up a wolf roleplay - one that will stick to the true nature of wolves, that will encourage its players to distinguish themselves AS wolves, not as magical neon-haired emo kids, one that will involve real pack dynamics, hunting, breeding, etc.
One that note, this is on the 18+ board for a reason. This roleplay may include swearing, violence, sexuality and the like - so if you don't think you can handle that, this isn't the roleplay for you. Conversely, if you're here ONLY for the sexuality and whatnot, this probably isn't the rp for you either. We're here for realism, not raunchiness :p
DA RULEZ:
-must be LITERATE, as the forum title would suggest. Minor spelling and grammar errors are fine, but you need to have a strong handle on the English language, including a firm understanding of they're/there/their, your/you're, and so on.
-must have basic understanding of wolf hierarchal models and behavior; even just the Wikipedia article on the Gray Wolf is sufficient. Thinking you know tons about wolves without having ever done any actual research doesn't count, sorry kids x_x
-individual wolves can behave however they like, but expect repercussions for unbecoming actions
-fights and rank challenges are okay, but don't god-mode (control other's characters) or powerplay (dodging every hit, being invincible, etc). If two fighters cannot agree on the outcome of a battle, decide it by randomizer/dice roll/etc.
-naturally-occuring wolf colors only. I don't mind wolves having other canine markings wolves don't typically have, but no rainbow stripes or blue polka dots or anything like that. Colors should be restricted to shades of white, cream, fawn, liver, red, brown, gray, silver, gold, tan, black, and charcoal. No tattoos, unrealistic 'hairdos' (wolves have manes. they don't have Sephiroth hair. yes?), or jewelry. scars, missing bits and so on are fine :P
-no breaking character. if you need to speak OOC, there will be a thread for that.

Explanation of ranks:
Alpha: the leaders of the pack. Female outranks the male and is the true 'head wolf', as per most recent wolf research. Female typically mates with male, but can mate with Betas or even Deltas if she feeling like thumbing her nose at the Alpha male. Alphas are rarely challenged and typically do not lose their places until they become too old to fight off challengers; however, sometimes a wolf will take and Alpha position and turn out not to be suited, in which case they will likely politely step down to a worthy challenger. Decide who gets to mate. Always eat first, though other wolves may try to sneak in a few bites.
Beta: second in command to the Alphas, the Betas take over leadership and discipline when the Alphas are away or unable to lead, until new Alphas are chosen. Not necessarily likely to become Alphas themselves; some maybe be ousted Alphas already, from other packs or their own. Advisors to the Alphas. Not typically allowed to mate except with the Alpha Female's permission. Eat second.
Delta: Enforcers, packmates of the Alphas or Betas, strong wolves but not cut out for leadership - though sometimes a challenger may arise from this rank. Not allowed to mate unless approached by Alpha female. Eat second.
Hunter: just that. Not necessarily the BEST at hunting, but inclined to it. Most likely to challenge a ranking wolf. Not allowed to mate. Eat second if they can snatch a bite, otherwise eat when the ranking wolves are finished.
Dreamer: sort of a shaman-type position, dreamers do not often hunt and are typically more of advisors, being familiar with weather patterns, seasonal changes and herd movements. May be brought along on long hunts to help navigate. Not inclined to challenge. Not allowed to mate. It is rare for a wolf to be a dreamer; most are much more active. Eat with hunters, sometimes saved tidbits by the ranking wolves.
Pup: Children of the Alpha female who have yet to make rank. Not necessarily pup age, basically just unranked wolves descended from the Alpha. Most will naturally become hunters or maybe dreamers; however, most successful challengers start out as pups, since as the Alpha's children they already have the approval of the pack. Older pups are brought on hunts to learn. Not allowed to mate. Eat last, but typically are brought food by ranking wolves. If not, they may have to deal with an angry omega to get a meal.
Omega: most likely demoted rankers or lone wolves who have attempted to join the pack. Omegas are the scapegoats of the pack, treated like punching bags by wolves with too much aggression, and are expected to babysit the pups - despite the fact that even pups can sense ranks, and are unlikely to listen to them. Never brought on hunts, eat after even the pups are finished, though they may try to shoulder their charges aside. Unlikely to challenge successfully. Never given permission to mate under any conditions, though they may try anyway.
All newcomers to the roleplay will start out as Pups or Omegas. After each hunt, as long as there are empty ranks, the Alphas will decide who to promote.

A bite out of her right ear and an "out of order" tracker on her left ear.<br /> History/backstory: (no 'mysterious pasts'; must include a history even if the wolf doesn't know it) Izangi was raised in a great loving family and was raised to be alpha of her pack untill IT happened. Another pack who wanted the land came in. Izangis parents placed her under a thick bush and told her "If anyone comes near you take off running as fast as you can." Izangi was a fast runner. Since she was raised to be an alpha, she is a good leader. She shook her head in disbelief and then saw the bunny in the corner of her eye. "Well" she thought "You want to play this game." She turned around sharply, but it wasn't there. Another failed mission. She headed back to camp.

He would have stayed in the pack if his brother hadn’t challenged him to fight. Souta had lost that fight for his brother was much larger and stronger than he was. His nose is black along with his lips. His fangs are crystal clean he hasnt got a tooth missing. He does have a small scar on the left side of his mouth reaching up to the bridge of his nose, His scar is black and narrow, its unnoticeable from his right side.<br /> Faibions coat is rather long and smooth, like a typical Mexican Wolf. His belly, legs and chin are a off-white color, his sides face and back are a mixture of bright oranges and natural reds merging into each other getting darker the higher up his back. On his back he has streaks of black running down his spine, shoulders and tail. He has black hair running down the bridge of his nose, stopping between his eyes, He also has black ears and black cheek tufts framing his face nicely. He has a rather bulky body and large heavy head. His ears are right on the top of his head showing his emotions easily<br /> <br /> History/backstory: Faibion is not a fan or his history nor does he share it often. His birth and upbringing was a normal one, the son of two Alphas with wo other siblings. His litter was the only pups of the pack and they were spoiled. In Faibions adolescence his Dam had another litter, and as you would expect the new litter received the majority of the packs love and attention. Envious of the attention the new pups were receiving, Faibion waited till it was his turn to watch the Pups. It didnt take long at only a week old Faibion killed the entire litter and blamed it on a fox. Faibions parents were no fools and new there son was lying. He was chased out of the pack at a year old, not before receiving a scar on his lip were his Dam bit him for lying. He struggled to live on his own after being so used to getting things easy, But he coped stealing and scavenging where he could.<br />

He has a star/spot on his chest and holds his head high. His fur is about 2 inches long and very silky. His claws are black, unlike some, which are white or pink-ish. He has blue eyes which are slightly more almond shaped than most wolfs' eyes. He is about 3 feet at the shoulder and his tail is very feathery. It is typically held limp, showing neutral dominance. He hates being submissive, and his personality is dominant. He has a vertical scar over his left eye from a cougar. He's tall, with broad shoulders and a deep chest. He's not the strongest in males, but makes up for it in his intimidating figure.<br /> <br /> History/backstory: When he was very young, just barely 8 weeks, he was abandoned. His mother was a low-ranking wolf and was taught a lesson by getting her litter abandoned. The father was another low-ranking wolf and was chased away. "It's a harsh life. There is no kindness. Only survival." is something Shadow believes in strongly. After he was abandoned, he and his four sibings were preyed upon by a grizzly. He only escaped by following a hare's scent down a hole. After that, humans found him and tried to 'help' him. He was badly injured trying to escape the first time, and didn't succeed until his third try. He was about 12 weeks old when he escaped. He holds an everlasting limp in his left hind leg as proof. He learned how to survive, and now he has made it to this pack. He hopes to be fully accepted, which is something his heart secretly aches for. <br />

Character name: Carrion<br /> Gender: Male<br /> Wolf subspecies: Tundra Wolf/Mackenzie Valley Wolf<br /> Pup or Omega?: Pup<br /> Desired rank: Carrion desires the rank of Beta Male.<br /> Age: 2 1/2 years<br /> Appearance: Mainly the color of amber, his forehead has a symmetrical patch of grey on it, curving on the eyebrow and make a curvy-like shape. A lighter shade of the red, more tan looking, stretches from his chin down halfway on his throat. Carrion's has a grey, almost black, nose. His eyes are a light, hazel brown that has hidden specks of very light green in them. Going down to his body, that 'handsome' red turns into a light brown color, splashed in with some brown-tan markings on the underside of him. He is ticked with a storm grey pattern on the neck-back area. This pretty much goes on until the tail, which is tan, as well as the legs. Dark, old, scar on his leg, going halfway around on his ankle. Somewhat noticeable if you really look at him.<br /> History/backstory: His parents named him Carrion in resemblance of a piece of fresh carrion due to his red coloring. Growing up like a normal pup, he was taunted and teased by many because of his odd name and weird coloring. He had a lack of proper care due to his large litter size. Carrion has produced a hunger for power. HOWEVER, he is very passionate to others, though it may not seem so under that mean glare, he is really only a smart, loving wolf on the inside. He left his parents when he found himself fit enough to find his own pack. He is now a 'Pup" in his new pack, and seeks the rank of Beta Male.

Her coat is long and soft, her winter coat having just grown in all the way<br /><br /><b>History/backstory:</b> Nikki was born into the same life as the other pups. A playful, joyous spirit, always curious as to why the world worked the way it does. But as she grew older, unlike the other pups who were just interested in playing and romping, Nikki continued to study the ways the stars rested in the sky, the way the moss grew on the trails. She enjoyed the company of the other dreamers, always listening and learning from their stories and lessons. There were many times when her heart was torn between living her life to mate and become a mother, perhaps taking over for her mother some day, and living the lone life as a dreamer. But she chose to take the life of a dreamer, giving up her chance to continue on as the other pups did. She left home once for several weeks, returning with knowledge of the herds' migration patterns, how to tell if the clouds will stay soft or turn angry with rain and ice, and with a better understanding of the nature that surrounded her pack. She has a tendancy to be a little snippy and strong willed, carrying around a slight chip on her shoulder from being the alpha's daughter.<br />

Character name: Moonpaw<br /><br />Gender: Female<br /><br />Wolf subspecies: Tundra/Alaskan Mix<br /><br />Pup or Omega: Omega<br /><br />Desired rank: To be decided by leader as they see fit. Moonpaw is still young and is unsure of many things yet.<br /><br />Age: 2 1/2 years<br /><br />Appearance: Moonpaw's coat is rather thick but soft to the touch. She has the appearance of her Alaskan father but with her mother's bright blue eyes. She is also rather big compared to her siblings all but one, a sister from whom she was seperated.<br /><br />History/backstory: Moonpaw is the the second born in a litter of six and lived a normal pack life, for the first 6 months however, but natural disasters happen at some of the most inopertune of times. A bad storm, down pouring rain, thunder and lightning. None of which make for a good combination as we all know. It caused a small seperation of the pack, as to wheather or not everyone was reunited is unknown to Moonpaw, for she had taken off and slid down a slippery slope in all of the comotion. Being covered in mud and feeling rather lost, she wandered around, unsure of how to get back. There isn't really anything overly special about Moonpaw, she knows that, but for now she's a loner in search of family and acceptance.

Character name: Grim<br /><br />Gender: Male<br /><br />Wolf subspecies: Tundra wolf<br /><br />Rank: Alpha Male<br /><br />Age: 5 years<br /><br />Appearance: He has a deep charcoal black hide that is dense and coarse with frosted silvering along his thick mane and back, as well as over the top half and crown of his skull. There are faint hints of dark rust only visible when under direct sunlight. On his back, the silvering angles down behind his shoulders to his mid-sides. A faint white and silver tip the very end of his tail. Grim's mane is disheveled and looks almost scraggly/spikey because of its length and coarseness, extending just over his shoulders in his winter coat. His eyes are a piercing pale yellow that look almost cream or grey-white depending on lighting. His muzzle and face are ticked with small scars from a long history of fighting and challenging authority in his original pack, and a small chunk of his nose-leather is missing. Most of his other scars from old hunting hazards or conflicts are obscured by his thick fur. The only other visible scarring is across his belly and groin area that slides up and across his left inner hip and knee from a nasty run-in with an angry wolverine when he was a foolhardy juvenile.<br /><br />History/backstory: Grim got his name from his harsh personality, as well as his knack for challenging and disrespecting authority, giving him a "grim" future in the eyes of the Alphas in his original pack. As a pup, he was groomed to become the next Alpha in line after his father's death, but he became impatient for power and challenged the Alpha male at every opportunity, until his mother would consistently intervene and bring a halt to the altercations. Unwilling to accept her own son into the position of Alpha male, and risk him turning on her to replace her with another female, she rallied the pack against Grim and forced him out entirely. At the time, Grim was 3 years old, and survived mostly on his own for two years, scavenging kills made by his old pack, stealing kills from smaller predators or other lone wolves, and hunting small prey before catching the scent of an unfamiliar female, which turned out to be Thickjaw. Together with her, he has become an Alpha male, ready to rule ruthlessly.<br />

Thick and long to provide adequate cover in the coldest of nights, though smooth and soft to the touch.<br />Eyes a deep gold color, the shade of autumn leaves.<br />A scar mars her otherwise unblemished form, ragged and thick ridged atop her front right paw, circling completely around.<br /><b>History/backstory:</b> She was captured when still a pup in the cold northern territory. The scar above her paw was what stopped her, where it was snapped into a hunter's trap when she wandered away from her previous pack. From the age of merely 6 weeks old, she was held captive by human's. Admired for her white and golden fur, peered at through bars and held against her will. Finally, she got her chance. She was being taken somewhere else, shipped in a small box, when she managed to get away. The container fell off of a moving thing and sprung open. She didn't wait. She had dreamed and longed for the time when she would be free. She took off into the night and never looked back.

Character name: Thickjaw<br />Gender: female<br />Wolf subspecies: Mackenzie Valley Wolf<br />Rank: Alpha female<br />Age: 6 years<br />Appearance: Dark brown, heavy, rough-textured coat. Reddish markings on legs, sides, cheekbones & muzzle bridge. Dark ears, dorsal stripe, tail tip. Dark muzzle & jaw. Overall very heavy, dark look, but clearly not black. Blocky, large head & thick muzzle, especially noticeable jaw muscles (as the name implies). Ears dark, nearly black. Nose & pawpads are a deep red-brown. Tail is average length, typically held straight out in dominant posture. Eyes are standard wolf golden. She has a multitude of little scars - she's an older wolf and been in plenty of fights and hunting accidents. Big scars across the ribs on her left side, and up the line of where her left back leg meets her body, from an encounter with a grizzly bear.<br />History/backstory: She was the daughter of the old Alpha female, from her last litter. She and her littermates challenged their mother, and after they won, Thickjaw was quick to take the position over, severely punishing any challengers. She's a big, hulking wolf, with a gruff temperament. Can be gentle if the time comes but unfortunately often waits until *just after* kindness would be most helpful, due to her reluctance to appear vulnerable. Sharp-tongued and quick to back up her words with carefully measured force. She was approached to be tagged as a young wolf, but due to her size the conservationists oversedated her, and had to wake her ASAP to avoid killing her. Because of this near-death-experience, she sometimes have difficulties with her memory (but always tries to hide this 'weakness').

Character name: Rakesh<br />Gender: male<br />Wolf subspecies: Timberwolf<br />Rank: Dreamer<br />Age: 4 years<br />Appearance: lean but tall, long-legged blue-grey wolf. Dark grey saddle, dorsal stripe, tail-tip, and ear-rims. Stark white muzzle, eye-circles, brow spots, inner ear fur, throat, chest, and under-tail. Stark white paws also, with a stripe of white leading up the back of each leg to meet the chest patch (front legs) or under-tail (back legs). Paler silvery patches on front of shoulders. Silver-grey ticking and markings on back and neck. Small scar on bridge of muzzle, large, thin scar across throat (old pack marking). Golden-brown eyes.<br />History/backstory: An outcast for another pack, Rakesh moved quickly from Omega to Dreamer once his personality became clear. He's a Dreamer through-and-through, with a strong love of stargazing, weather-reading, and quiet contemplation. He's a bit of a space cadet, often missing sleep to stare up into the sky. His very favorite pastime, and what he's known throughout the pack for, is telling stories.
