"<br /> <br /> Actually, in ubuntu, the default is 4, but you can set up way, way more, and there are several different ways of jumping between screens. :3

When I received my first laptop in '08 as a graduation gift it came pre-loaded with Vista. All in all it worked fairly decent. The laptop wasn't a power house so I couldn't play much on it. (Oh yeah...I'm a gamer xD) After some messing around I downloading and installed Windows 7 32bit. It ran AMAZING. Boot ups were lightening, games ran better and processes were faster. On the SAME laptop! So impressed.<br /> <br /> After this I purchased and built my own computer with my (now ex) boyfriend. We had put a modded Windows Vista Black Edition 64bit. It...actually ran really really well with occasional compatibility issues! Regardless of that, the bad taste of Vista was still in my mouth despite it running really well on my desktop.<br /> So I loaded up a modded Nvidia version of Windows 7 ultimate 64bit. Oh boy I've never had such an amazing gaming rig thus far! It was fast, graphics were beautiful (though that had to do with my hardware. ;)) and it ran awesome. It had a few bugs here and there with compatibility and decided it didn't like my wireless card anymore lol.<br /> So then I found a Stock Windows 7 Ultimate 64b with SP1 (service pack 1). I have been using that same OS for a year and a half now and it's everything I need in a system.<br /> The OS itself has become more "idiot proof" than I would care to admit. However it's easy to pick up and learn for majority of people. I have had NO compatibility issues. It has accepted every piece of hardware and partition I have through at this baby. All my games run flawlessly, and I haven't had any issues with windows misplacing DLL files. (Which my stock vista OS liked to do quite frequently.)<br /> <br /> For my needs as a hardcore gamer, Windows 7 ulti 64b fits my EXACT needs. I have not tried windows 8, however with their attempted integration with Xbox and their phone--I'm not too eager to attempt it. Especially with the rumor about integrating an online "Live" price like they do Xbox.<br /> <br /> Now as for Mac's. I'm NOT an apple fan, however with their recent lapse into Windows parts they have improved enormously. You are now able to flawlessly dual or triple boot into the Mac OS, Windows OS AND even have a Linux partition on your computer. (Of course Microsoft has allowed this for many years...so it's about time they caught up.) I will say that for ME, an Apple is not worth the price. They are overpriced. I can spend $3,000 on a Mac and built my own PC for similar specs or even better for $1000 or under. For the "average" user or media user who needs a computer strictly for work, media fun or rendering; a mac is wonderful!<br /> <br /> Ok! Now Linux/Ubuntu!<br /> They are AMAZING. If you are strictly business or internet browser...even a school child this type of OS is awesome. They are hard hard hard to set up if you've never done this before, however they run well on almost all computers. The OS amazes me actually. It's all custom built by PEOPLE not companies! (Yes the other's are by people as well but under a company that tells them what to do.)<br /> For me, a gamer, I cannot use this on my main machine. It makes Windows lovers (like me) look like stuck up business men who are middle age and slightly chubby. That isn't true, I am a 21 year old skinny female who parties AND games! <br /> <br /> They make Mac lovers seem like the "hipsters" of their time. Appealing it to my age generation, when it reality...you walk into a 3D rendering studio and over 70% of their computers will be mac! Macs are specific power houses great for an sort of graphical or "arts" business! Also they do well for "normal" word docs business as well.<br /> <br /> All in all (after typing all this...) I believe there is no "better" OS. There is a "Better for your needs" OS. I personally will not ever buy a Mac because I dislike that their programs (Itunes is so annoying.) are so proprietary. Drives me up the wall. I like options, however that is the type of user I am.<br /> :3

I have Windows 8. I guess it is alright. I am still getting used to it to be honest. It is fast and easy to use and navigate. There are plenty of opinions and such. <br /> <br /> I have always been a Windows kind of guy. I do appreciate Apple for it's cell phone/iPod products though. But for computers I like a good 'ol PC.<br /> <br /> I have grown up on PC's, and know them best. I honestly can't imagine switching to a Mac. If I would like a nice expensive computer, I can get a PC for the same price as a Mac (the cheapest Mac) and probably get a lot more for my money.<br /> <br /> I don't know much about different opporating systems, but I do plan to learn some more about them, <br /> <br /> But I think I'ma stick to a PC.

I have a linux running tablet. It works pretty good. It's almost as fast as my Win7 laptop. But I don't think I'll ever buy a computer other than a Windows. Just because they are used everywhere and that's what I grew up on. Everyone says macs are so simple but whenever I go on my dad's I get so confused.

In the marketing and advertisement world, mac and microsoft are really the only competitors. (how would an operating system that costs nothing afford to place ads?) Also, you have the fear of the unknown, one of human kinds strongest instincts. Mac had a head start in the 80's, but by the mid 90's, microsoft had very nearly a monopoly on operating systems, and held it for a very long time. I'm not sure why mac is gaining in popularity again, specially since microsoft has kind of been THE operating system that everyone is familiar with the most. (to me, buying a mac looks like buying a car with the hood welded shut.)<br /> <br /> So far, in my opinion, linux/ubuntu just does what it does better, probably because almost every user is contributing to its improvement. (being open source, it seems to attract a disproportunately large number of tinkerers, hobby programmers, and people willing and able to solve problems.) the linux/ubuntu user base is very much like a modding community, except instead of modding games, they are modding the OS its self. :3

I'm using a Windows 7. I would have a mac but they cost way too much and at the time I desperately needed a computer. It's not as bad as everyone says. It loads Microsoft Office and the internet pretty well and that's all I use it for.<br /> <br /> If Windows was such a bad system like people say, people wouldn't buy it and they would sell out.

I'm using Windows 7 and it's not too horrible. I had Vista on my last computer and hated it. Terrible OS. Not to mention it booted my computer up every morning at 2 am even after I went in and told it not to. My Dad uses Ubuntu and says it's amazing.
