Okay I hate it when I go with my parents out to eat and they are both on there iPhones playing games on the e-net when I try to talk to them they go "shhh Im reading this.." or "I'm doing this...". Gah!
Phones were invented for communicating to people from a distance not "surfing" the web >:( Thats what computers were invented for.
Phones are now a days used for texting, calling, gaming, internet, and movies...and more. Why?!?!
..........
I hate new technology.

I agree that this is a little extreme. I have never owned, and my parents have owned a smartphone. We don't like the extra charges.

Yes, we bring an atlas on vacation.

We know people who can give us a car rental place's number just in case by a quick phone call.

My mom got a portable DVD player as a gift from work.

My brother and I have a Nintendo DS.

Another reason smart phones are crazy:

My dad coaches my brother's soccer, baseball and basketball teams. The league he's in doesn't require fees before you get the uniforms. 3 kids quit after they got their uniforms and before they payed. They sent emails to my dad saying: "Money is tight right now..." etc. But at the bottom of all those people's emails said "sent from my iPhone".
Think of all the money you could have used to give your son a good time instead of your iPhone.

I’m a 1990s baby, born into this sort of thing – but I do not understand a lick of smart phones and this new age technology. But I can understand why it is convenient. For people that use these phones for things like notes, news, directions and communication, they are an understandable “necessity”. So I can understand the draw to them

Either way, I’ll never understand how to use them

It's extremely handy having a phone that does all this stuff. I finally got an iPhone 4S (turned Siri off, though, cause she was creeping me out) and can't imagine not having it. Here's why I'm glad I have it:

-While driving to a strange town with a crazy shelter dog in the back of my car, I realized I had no idea where I was going. I stopped, plugged the address into the MapQuest app, and was directed to my location. Without it, I probably would have gotten entirely lost.
-While at a Chinese restaurant, I realized I didn't know what one of the ingredients listed on the menu was. The dish looked good, but without knowing what that ingredient was I didn't want to order it. I Googled it (the waiter was nowhere to be found) and learned it was something I wouldn't like.
-While I was at a Greyhound rescue's open house, I met a dog that I instantly fell in love with. I snapped a picture with my phone and texted it to my dad (mom was with me and was totally all for adopting). Dad fell in love with the picture and gave me the okay to fill out the paperwork. Had I not been able to take a photo and text it, I likely would not have a very lazy Greyhound currently napping across the room from me - Dad wasn't sure he was ready for a new family member, and without a picture I probably wouldn't have been able to convince him.
-While on campus, I was trying to remember my professor's office number on the way to his building, but I couldn't seem to recall it. Rather than stop and dig through my backpack for the syllabus (and end up late for our meeting), I pulled it up on my phone while I was walking, found his office, and was right on time.

I remember when my dad first got his iPhone - he used it much like your parents are using it. Then Mom and I set up rules - no iPhone at the table, in restaurants, etc - and he stopped being on it all the time. I agree, it's really annoying and rude when people are on them constantly, but you never know - they could be doing something urgent.

the only person who hates how new technology is evolving.

Its like they're trying to put all techy stuff into a phone. GPS, computer, e-net, TV, and random stuff.

(I have the fear of robots taking over...I know thats weird but yeah >.>)

It's not a bad thing.

Your parents seemingly have little sense of place and no manners. That's the bad part.

"In the near future, you will probably have a small, portable TV/phone/game system/computer/GPS/MP3 player/anything else they can cram into it"
They do lol, it's called the iPhone 4 :P

I don't think this is the phones fault. The phone could easily be a book or news paper. The lines between computers, TV, and phones is blurring. In the near future, you will probably have a small, portable TV/phone/game system/computer/GPS/MP3 player/anything else they can cram into it, and you'll have a similar, larger device at home, replacing your computer, TV, land line phone, and coffee maker.
I don't think its nessesarily a bad thing, but that all depends on how things are handled.
