The Riddler was easy a pie

@chain, everyone has stopped bickering over it and as people have said there is a debate about it in the forum so have the negative say there not here!

i liked the old one better it looked more... well riddlie this one- no effence- looks like a australian sheperd thats got something in one of his eyes. >:( DX O-o

Though I like the old Riddler's cartoon-like style better, I think they did an excellent job on this. The new riddler fits the site better to me, consider the dogs on Ala are realistic looking. Great job Xylax and Kittybot. :D

What can I say the art is amazing, I wish I had this much talent. But I am going to refrain any other words about opinion and save it for the debate. I hope that is appropiate ;P

Oh wow. All this fuss over a picture?.. Not worth it. You can just state that you like or dislike the picture and move on but fussing.. not needed. Im wishing some other news would pop up and kinda leave this news post alone that way no more fussing/ arguing. ^_^

Either way I think everyone is entitled to dislike it as well. If they don't like it, then they don't like it, and they're allowed to have such an opinion. But I'm going to leave it at that before this gets out of hand.

Critique is constructive and aids an artist in improving, not just a vague comment of dislike. This is where the obvious assumption of "the art is unappreciated" comes from.<br /> <br /> Plus critiquing a finished picture without a request for critique is kind of a moot point. And Carni was sure to point out the artists who did this particular work. It would make considerably more sense to message them privately and discuss, in depth, what your issues are with the image rather than smearing their work all across the news page.

I never really pay attention to the riddler picture.. either way, but now that old pic is gone... I kinda miss it... but we do miss everything when it's gone don't we...

I have yet to see anyone be as rude as you're insinuating, Bridgette. For the most part everyone HAS said it is nice art, just that they don't care for the expression. I haven't seen anyone come in here screaming about how it's weird and messed up. So I really don't know where you're getting the impression that everyone is being "harsh, silly, inappropriate, immature, and tactless". If you ask me, the rude one is the person coming in here telling everyone that their opinion is worthless because "maybe the artist didn't want critique". There is a huge difference. If you say the facial expression doesn't "suit" you. It means it's just not your style. You say the facial expression is weird or messed up or funky you are suggesting shotty workmanship and it is rude. It's un-necessary rude and silly. Not to mention totally untrue. The quality of the new image is high, and it's great. Not suiting someone is different than there being something wrong with it. There isn't anything wrong with it. <br /> <br /> Furthermore, I find it completely ridonculous to post anything negative at all. This wasn't a vote whether or not it would be the new riddler. It was an update saying it is. It wasn't open to discussion or debate. Frankly, it ticks me off that everyone seems to think that negative comments are acceptable. When you post art publicly, you can pretty much expect critique. And so far everyone's been very polite about it, not saying "omg it sucks omg" just stating that they don't think it suits the Riddler and so forth. It just seems to me like we're kind of being told to "like it or shut up". I suppose I'm just not seeing where anything anyone has said here is particularly hurtful towards the artists, seeing as the most hurtful things I've come across are the people scolding anyone who dislikes the image as if they're being a terrible person. Maybe I'm misunderstanding here, but that's how I'm interpreting everything :/

I believe Wysper was just talking about general artistic etiquette, not from a staff perspective. Unwanted critiquing can hurt artists. :)

I was unaware there was any rule against critique in the news posts. I totally understand if it starts turning into an argument, then it does belong in the debate forum, but simply someone saying they don't like the image? It seems odd to me that the news posts would be pretty much praise-only.

Heaven forbid we have our own opinions anymore. LOL, so we're only supposed to just praise the news? Don't you dare have your own opinion where every one can see! Go hide it away somewhere! The users gotta believe that we are perfect in every single thing that we ever do! If art is posted publicly, it's gonna get critiqued, if you can't handle crit, don't post it publicly, that simple. People WILL have an opinion about your art. If they don't, they either don't care or they aren't saying because they know you will just whine about it.

I like the new image. However, my critique would be to have a better facial expression... Im used to the other image with its obvious mischevious expression. So this one is rather odd, and I find it somewhat creepy looking. But that is my only thing :D I love the image itself, just the face looks a bit odd... As said below I agree that it is missing that "riddler" pizazz.

Now Carni, you can't expect everyone to be pleased with new changes and such. A good artist needs to hear from the people, especially if those people say it needs a change. Saying they like the old one does not mean the hate the new one. Now I know kittybot and Xy must've done their best into this but it's good to hear critique's. -Shixa

Carni, you can't expect everyone to like the changes. So far I haven't seen people being rude about it, only expressing that they don't like it much. You don't have to agree with them, but it's kind of rude of you to come in here and speak to the members as if they're doing something wrong simply by not liking the new picture. Everyone's been very polite in saying why they dislike it. Nobody's being unsupportive, nobody doesn't appreciate the work put into that picture, just, some people don't like this picture and they're entitled to their own opinions. <br /> <br /> Geist, you're entitled to how you feel about the picture as well but it sounds like you're just saying "I like it and I'm right and you're wrong". If you like it, great, but you shouldn't demand that everyone agree with you or get angry when peoples' opinions differ on something as subjective as art.

Geist, Carni~ if you're going to allow people to comment on the new artwork, youc ant expect every comment to be something you want to hear. Many more people find the dog unfitting for the riddler picture. And Geist, what people see in the picture is very subjective, it isnt "clear" that it has expression on its face, to most people that have commented, it lacks any at all...so it doesnt clearly state expression (just to you it does) it looks like any dog does as its panting. No ones really bashed it by saying its bad, most agree its good artwork, just a lot of us think it isn't suitable for this purpose. Persoanlly I think a fox would be more fitting.

I love the new trivia symbol! Then I am extremely partial to realism in the dogs.

The art is undeniably gorgeous. It is a huge upgrade. It will take me some getting used to though. I'm never too big on change.

Carni; That comment angers me. Who said we didn't appreciate it? We are simply giving what we thought about the image, it's our opinions. As always, I'm sure we will grow used to it, but not everyone is going to like the same thing. Others are different. I'd hate to argue, but we DO appreciate all the work you've done, and it makes me angry that you would take our different opinions as "hate" and "unappreciative".

The new image looks great, it is just missing a touch that says "The Riddler". With that said, I think it would actually look pretty good as a separate breed. :3

This is a awesome picture and I like it a lot but it has a lacking feel to it. Might I suggest an accessory/item (and maybe a background a well) that shows s/he is 'The Riddler'. I'm not seeing it with this drawing. Other then that great job to the artists! :)<br />

Thank you, Geist, and others who support the change. It's good to know that the hard work by the art team to improve the site is appreciated by some. :} The resistance to change is understandable, but people could be much more tactful with their opinions. I hope they will be in the future, when the efforts of the art team continue to bring about additions and improvements.

I am really not getting the hate.<br /> <br /> A lot of Ala users have proven, time and time again, that they will fight change tooth and nail. The face isn't lacking emotion at all, it's simply not cartoony like the previous Riddler. This one has a clear look of amusement on its face, and a much more dignified appearance. He looks like he knows something you don't (..the whole point?) while his pose helps him blend slightly more with Ala's dog art.<br /> <br /> The previous Riddler was grimacing at a frog with its eyes crossed. It also had utterly warped anatomy (apologies to the previous artist). The cartooniness was completely out of place and jarring.<br /> <br /> Sites like Alacrity WILL undergo art evolution. There is nothing wrong with this image; it's simply.. a different drawing than what everyone had grown accustomed to seeing. Please, please stop the unpleasable fanbase behavior. :\

It's nice artwork but, but is rather boring and emotionless. The old one is much more fitting because of it's mischeivious, sly clever personality it shows. This one is just a dog standing there, and I don't see craziness in its eyes at all. Why fix whats not broken?? Sowwy.

I have to agree with the ones saying it has no emotion. It's just so plain and boring. It's just standing there. Also, I'm not sure an Aussie seems like a Riddler type, but that's my opinion.

I will comment one more time. Well, the new riddler image is just a Aussie, well an Aussie is what kittybot said. But I liked the last one better because it, to me, matched this, "BWAHA. I am The Riddler and no one can beat me!" This new one is just plain. Just saying. ^^
