Oh I realize the variations. :3 I wasn't going by preference on the weight, but even with dogs who are thicker build it should be ascending instead of descending.
I do love it either way, was just offering some input. ^_^
(also some people will claim a dog is just thick because parts of their body look good but others don't, different dogs carry their fat in different areas. )

If I were going off personal preference a lot of other things would be said. :P But I understand everyone's taste is different.

I'm excited :3

Eek! I'm so excited! Does anyone know exactly when they're coming out? At roll over maybe? Yes, I have to stay up until roll over (roll over is 2 AM in my time).

Well, it's certainly not intended to be overweight, and I've seen Pit Bulls that are built a little thicker than others. Dogs are like people that way, they might all be the same breed, but you still get plenty variants within the breed from coat to build to personality, etc. <3 But I understand you have your preferences, which is okay. :}

I understand.

However with the stomach that is considered overweight :x

Vets want to see a scoop. I'm not really worried about muscle but I'd prefer somewhat of a scoop as I dislike having overweight dogs. Makes me feel bad :(

Celest,I based the pose on seeing lots and lots of photos of the breed in this type of pose. I understand everyone has a preference, and that I can't make everyone 100% happy all of the time. X} The belly straightens out rather than scooping up because I wanted the breed to look nice and healthy rather than just scrawny and covered in muscles. Not that there's anything wrong with that look, but I was going for a happy medium between "lanky and athletic" and " stocky and thick" since I know a lot of people prefer one shape or the other, so I just tried to bring the two together for a balanced look. :P

Just wanted to add a few things if you don't mind. :3

A "show dog stance" would be completely stacked, "squared off" with feet lined up next to each other.
They aren't stacked like GSDs

This dog is stacked and in a show. She's also a Grand Champion in conformation just for reference.
http://www.matrixkennels.com/reloaded/1_598.jpg

And there should be a tuck between the rib cage and legs. It looks more like it goes in a straighter line. But it should be rib cage then a scoop up.
Sort of like this(this dog is also stacked)
http://www.matrixkennels.com/Trinityb4ADBAsmall.jpg

There really should be a triple bone special. I'd even donate, if there is one, to get my pit customs.

Oh man, I have the cutest picture ever of my Boxer puppy with his ears taped and tongue lolling. Not the same breed, I know, but he could still be a reference XD -- http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y219/Kaeliface/KeenanGrins.jpg -- OK, maybe he looks a little manic there, haha.

Well then Carni, when you do the puppies, -totally- do them open-mouthed with the lolling tongue out the side. :P And for the "cropped" option, I'd adore seeing the taping, instead of magically-fully-healed cropped ears. :D

The open mouth would've looked beyond cute xD (can picture a tongue hanging out of the side of the mouth with a silly grin. ha ha)

Thank you for your input, Larth. I did look at many ref photos as well as videos of the breed, as well as the written standards and based things on everything at my disposal. The pose is as it is because it's a very typical show pose of the breed. The rose ears are intentional, to help show that the dog is supposed to be focused and alert, rather than pensive or frightened, as ears tilted/relaxed down made it look (I did several sketch tweaks through the sketching process to see what looked best, and the sketch also went through rounds of critique by the art team). I could have overcome that by giving the dog an open mouth and big happy grin, but as I've seen several people comment that I apparently draw open-mouthed dogs too much, I steered away from that. X}

All in all, everyone's entitled to personal preference, I'm just glad that despite any minor complaints people seem to be happy with the new breed. <3

The art looks GREAT!! But I must say besides the perfection the back leg that's forward and bent is supposed to look the same as the other almost like how halter horses are shown.

Here's an image to help describe what I'm talking about. http://dogbreedinfocenter.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoid=93307965

It shows strength and excellence of the breed. front paw straight forward back legs stretched back all pretty. Just one thing to point out. ^-^ but it looks great otherwise! I know how hard/long it must've been to draw them. The eyes look good as well he/she looks calm instead of out of control and wild which is comforting to me. xP Anyways, 'sides the leg, I love it!

I love the new breed, and I'm definitely going to be getting some - but there are a couple of things I'd like to point out, if I may?

The back legs... something seems off about them. As if the far one is at an awkward, unbalanced angle, or the close one is hyper-extended. It throws me off. I mean, if the dog was posed like that for a specific purpose (to stretch the closer body of the dog to show muscle tone, but pull in the far leg to show mobility), then I can take it or leave it.
The thing that bothers me the absolute most though.. is the natural ears.
I was hoping they'd be a bit wider, or set a tiny bit further out on the head. As it looks now, it looks like they have rose ears, as opposed to drop ears (the tips bent down, like Collies). I understand that a lot of the google images you see do have these, they are actually only at that 'angle' when the dog is curious about something/something has the dog's immediate attention, and even then, the eartips tend to be a little further down, and pointed a little more outwardly (see here: http://www.yourpurebredpuppy.com/dogbreeds/photos/americanpitbullterriersf6.jpg | http://www.puppyparadise.com/images/Breeds/american-pit-bull-terrier-0002.jpg | http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/0c/American_Pit_Bull_Terrier_-_Seated.jpg/220px-American_Pit_Bull_Terrier_-_Seated.jpg | http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/images23/AmericanPitbullTerrierKoda3Months.jpg)

I know the images are done, and that everyone else probably thinks it's all perfect, and I'm wrong and horrible for saying anything, but.... just my $0.02 - I'll be cropping all my pibbles anyway. :P

Whoa, Geist, I think you're overreacting just a tiny bit. I always thought the definition of "derpy" was "silly looking"? At least, that's how I always used it.
Posted on 07-20-2011 at 3:31 PM
Eesu, saying the "eyes are a bit derpy" has terrible implications (such as, it sounds like you're saying the dog looks like it has Down Syndrome).. please don't do that. It's more than a little offensive, for the most awful reasons. If you dislike the art, state specifically why, please?

Yay, you did a great job Carni! Although I'm partial to ADBA style Pit Bulls. They look like well drawn UKC style Pit bulls. I love em'

O_o I didn't catch that. But yeah Maggs is right, they're a space between Pit and Bull
American Pit Bull Terrier

http://www.ukcdogs.com/WebSite.nsf/Breeds/AmericanPitBullTerrierRevisedNovember12008

Just sayin' that because I'd imagine it would be a pain to change the name when they're already out o.o

I gotta start saving up for a pit bull! I secretly LOVE this breed. But I am sure EVERYONE in my family diss agree, due to the reason they where bred.

Normally I hate the cropped look of Pits but you have used the older breed not todays overbred thick dogs. I love it and now plan on getting several Pits. Thank you so much.
