is trying to
private chat with you.
I vote no, or you can have a check box by them so people have a choice to use them or not on text.

You guys are so picky. Of course nobody wants them, because then (as usual) The mods would go crazy about "Homg smilie overuse!" Just like everything else. Couldn't we compromise? Have it be turned off? Or if you overuse it, you get it turned off? Come on, be a little flexible. Let the chat have at least a TINY bit of light please.

I already overuse smilies and I know it. :) Please leave them text. I would be even more annoying as I try to convey that I am amused or smiling as I chat.

I vote no to smilies. While it would be "cool", it would be one more thing mods would have to adress as "smilie overuse". I would never like seeing yellow blobs in chat. If they would be some other color, I still oppose, still, random color blobs. If this feature isn't abused it would cool to have a list showing them on the forums or news comments page, if you click that smilie it will show the text thing such as ,, :annoyed:
so when you would it would appear as that smilie thing. It's kinda hard to explain, but this is done on other site.

Well, if they do add the smilies, maybe they could make a whole list of them, and have them all able to be seen. That way people can't spam the chat to try to find them. ^^"

(My opinion) What you guys should do is BOTH if people want to do the text smiles they can & if people want to do picture smileys they can.

It's much better like that way, why would you just want to use text smiles? when you can use BOTH it's much for fair to everyone who likes text smiles & picture smiles.

Thank you for the update though!

Oh PLEASE no. People would be spamming chat trying to find them all, and it'd give me a massive headache and lag chat. Text only x.x

I think smilies would be fun, but it doesn't seem like a top priority right now. We should be focusing on more important ways to improve the site.

If there to be smilies, I think they should be an add-on. Not auto. Like have their own special coding. So then one had to use them deliberately.

I voted for text, however, I wouldn't mind images, if I had the ability to view them as text instead, maybe make a setting for that?

I agree with Zan here, Please Please No. I don't chat often but I do enjoy watching some of the things people talk about there and auto smiles drive me up a wall. I have been avoiding them all my life and am even in the habit of spacing things out in many places.. I would hate to see them here.. for whenever I do chat I would have to space and I would get many headaches if I ever tried to watch chat without a turn off option. I also would worry if it went to chat it would go to messages and that would really drive me insane. I also agree they often can give off the entirely wrong mood set. : /

I said image smilies but I have a good idea too- About how when you change the site layout, each layout has a custom set of similies that go along with it.
Posted on 09-29-2011 at 8:56 AM
Text smiles but it would be good if there was a little button for them to turn it of and go back to text
Posted on 09-29-2011 at 8:03 AM
I think that smilies should be made, but can be turned on and off by players.
I do prefer the text smilies though :3

Oh please no, I can't stand smilies. They're beyond annoying, and I don't use IM clients unless they let me shut smilies off. They just look really garish and irritating to me, and no doubt they'd be horribly abused in chat. So yeah, gonna go with a definite no on this.

Personally, I don't dig the smilies assigned to a given character set. It often sets the mood all wrong. I'd LOVE for these to remain text only... of course, this is my opinion and all other opinions are treated as fairly :)

Oh please don't. Smile pictures are a never ending source of irritation. If it does come to it, though, there should be an option to turn them off. I would reather just not see them in the first place.

I think smileys would be a nice idea, however I think it'd be best to use simple, not very eye catching ones, maybe ones that are only a outline or fit in well with text rather than being a big yellow blob.
Posted on 09-28-2011 at 10:18 PM
I don't mind if they're added -- so long there's an option to turn'em off. :x
Like there's an option to turn off the layout chat and hiding font colours in chat.
Something like 'Show emoticons as text?' [Y/N]

Seeing little pictures of smilies in chat would result in never ending irritation for me. I don't use im clients that do that because I hate them. Text ones are easy to ignore excessive use of a smily but if there are pictures, it could easily turn into something that's excessively abused by people. It's hard to see another little picture of an irritating yellow face every single post for an hour or more. Gonna be blunt and negative here, No. Please, no.

I think it would be cool, fun, and just plain different to have smilies! I hope thats what wins over the votes!!!

I'd like it with little pictures. Some emoticons like colon-slash [I'm not sure if it'll even work in the news posts lol..] don't work in chat.. so it just comes up as ":"
