Drug Legalization
So Alacrity, what's your stance on legalizing drugs?
Do you think all drugs should be legal? Illegal? Are there some that you believe shouldn't be touched?
Personally, I believe that almost all drugs should be legalized. The most pressing reason to me being I don't believe the government should have any rights to say what I can and cannot do with my body.
More collectively important would be the social and economic effects of widespread legalization. Not only would it create millions of jobs and remove virtually all violence from the industry, but legalization would cut down on the stigma surrounding drug addiction. As has been demonstrated in Portugal, decriminalization of drugs helps people seek treatment.
The only drug that I'm wary of would be PCP, since it can definitely cause people to do some absolutely crazy things, among them cannibalizing other people. However, I have few statistics to offer on violent incidents compared to total PCP use, so for the sake of the argument I believe it should be legalized as well.
Overall, I just don't see what the harm is in people smoking weed, occasionally popping an ecstasy pill or trying LSD/shrooms or even coke once or twice. Well, I guess other then the fact that privatized prison companies will suffer financially (poor babies), but for right now that's neither here nor there.

Yeah, I'm with Clayton. I know these people, well, knew. They went to Mexico for vacation and they had a car a lot like one a drug gang was targeting, and they chased the people i knew in the car, a HALF a block before they would have been safe, they were showered by bullets, the people I knew were a young family, the parents were in their late 20's, the mom was 5 months along and an 18 month old in the back seat. The 18 month old was amazingly, and thankfully, completely unharmed(physically, we don't know if there will be much trauma due to young age, but I know from experience that ALL trauma, no matter how old, changes you forever) . But the parents and the unborn baby parished. Their bodies were so bad, the had a CLOSED casket, and this happed because of
1. Drugs
2. Mistaken Identity
and
3. Money.

Pretty pointless, right?

Just make it LEGAL so no one else has to go through this!

Although I support recreational drug use, I believe some drugs should stay illegal for a reason. Some drugs (like cocaine) are made out of DIESEL GASOLINE for pete's sakes
Not to mention people get tortured and mutilated over the drug trade right now anyways.
Legalize pot

I at no point said "you should smoke, take these pills and snort this that and the other drug" I said I don't see the issue the law has with people who do. That's my opinion on people who do choose to use, not my position on whether or not anyone should or shouldn't.

Again, I'm very curious as to why a debate about the legalization of marijuana (where if I recall correctly, several users openly admitted to smoking, legally or otherwise) was allowed to remain in the debate section, but this can't.

Is it an issue with the types of drugs, between Marijuana, and what is considered "harder" drugs?

The final paragraph of your opening debate advocates drug use. We felt that 18+ was a safer environment for discussing this.

I posted it in debate so it would reach a larger pool of opinions, as 18+ is generally more cohesively opinionated and open minded. Which kind of prevents the "debate" aspect of the debate.

At no point did I "advocate" recreational drug use, I simply stated that it should be one's own business what they do.

Moved to 18+ because it might not be the best thing to be advocating recreational use around the younger population of ala. Feel free to go on with a debate, this is just a topic better suited for this board than the general forums. (:

Confused as to why this was moved. The debate forum states specifically that the content may be inappropriate for those under 14. Marijuana legalization was debated there.
