Legalizing Marijuana
With two US states now making the recreational use and selling of marijuana legal I'd like everyone's views on if it should be legal everywhere or not. The subject came up in my home last night about it and if it were legal everywhere there would be more accidents than drunk drivers because you would be driving under the influence.
My view is yes there will be accidents and work casualties like any other thing you have out there, prescription drugs, alcohol, illegal drugs, and so on but I really don't think there is going to be this gigantic spike all of a sudden in it. Whether it's legal or not there are sill going to be accidents. It's not going to stop people from smoking it and doing what they want on it. I know people who smoke daily and do just fine in life, it just calms them down.
I want your views on this, do you think it should be legal or not? and why. And do you think there would be a huge increase in accidents, both vehicular and on the job?

My friend smokes and hes functional and its actually almost impossible to OD smoking Marijuana so that wouldn't kill you as easily as Crack or Heroin but depending on who your dealer is and what other drugs you take or lace into your Marijuana if they sell you a strong pure substance of Marijuana you'll have stronger effects than if you have a dealer who sells you marijuana that is less potent or strong you won't have as strong effects or the drug, then its usually laced with a prescription drug or something to make the high more enjoyable and last longer, (I have pothead friends they inform me of this. I have never smoked a Joint in my life) So if we sell it in a stronger purer form we have a less likely chance of people getting other drugs mixed in with their weed and causing less accidents I do believe though more people would stay home and smoke their bag of weed than go to work if it was legalized but there may not be many accidents. A joint does double the amount of tar in your lungs (One joint with the amount of tar in it is the equivalent to 2 cigarettes)

I studied different types of drugs in Psychology, and honestly, pot doesn't do a whole lot of bad things to your body.<br /> <br /> There's alcohol, which causes liver damage and a whole bunch of other things, and harder drugs which can cause addiction, brain damage, and damage to the body.<br /> <br /> And then when we got onto the topic of weed, even our teacher admitted that weed isn't really... bad. (Then he told us not to repeat that haha). It doesn't have any major side affects.<br /> <br /> So that's my point of view, cigarettes are more dangerous and they're legal, so I don't see anything wrong with weed?

I personally think it should be legalized, as an avid cannabis enthusiast. I'm in Ontario, Canada, it won't be long I don't think, lol.

I believe that marijuana is like any other medicinal plant. It has it's benefits. The choice is in the hands of the beholder in which way they use it. It is a relaxer, in my "opinion". It reduces stress- or at least you cant really think of anything bad or stressful going on in your life at the moment. Yes, I think they should make it legal.<br /> <br /> Sorry guys, not trying to rant, or sound like a die hard pothead.<br /> <br /> Now, how many deaths has pot caused (not by the actions inhibited, but by the substance itself) that you've heard of? Zero. And hey, it's pretty much the same as alcohol. Except minus the liver damage and worse effects. Fun.

Legalize recreational use for adults! :) <br /> <br /> I'm not going to go into why as there is another thread about this. It's been dead for awhile but no sense in re-posting a huge wall o' text! <a href="http://www.alacritysim.com/forums.php?boardid=7976&category=Debate&s=40&np=6">Thread located here.</a><br /> <br /> <i>"And do you think there would be a huge increase in accidents, both vehicular and on the job?"</i><br /> <br /> I don't think accidents would increase much, if at all. If people are going to smoke and drive, or work, they are going to do it whether it's legal or not.<br /> <br /> <i>"At the moment 2 states in the US have made it legal with restrictions to it and then there is California who only, at the moment, has medicinal legalized. "</i><br /> <br /> Cali is one of at least thirteen states who have legalized medicinal use. :)<br /> <br /> Edit; YAY TYPOS! :D
At the moment 2 states in the US have made it legal with restrictions to it and then there is California who only, at the moment, has medicinal legalized. I agree with using it to calm down or destress because I used to myself. I have a hard time concentrating and stress out very easily and I've found that smoking once in a blue moon helps sometimes.

Al, that is a good analogy and I like it :) However, I don't believe that everybody smokes pot because it's "bad" to do so. It relaxes them, it's medicinal, it helps them with stress, it's an overall good thing.<br /> I don't know why the gov hasn't widely legalized pot, they could tax it and make bank off of it.

Okay, here's my thoughts (bear with me)<br /> <br /> <br /> So let's say you have a little kid, and that little kid is in love with chocolate. Now, being a good parent, you hide the chocolate away from the child so that they can't reach it. However, you don't realize that you made the child want it more and more.<br /> <br /> So, you get fed up and put the chocolate back down so the child can have it and you tell them, "Have as much as you want."<br /> <br /> So the kid smiles and thanks you and eats more and more. Days late, they're offiicially sick of chocolate and don't want to look at it anymore.<br /> <br /> <br /> Now, replace the child with people, the chocolate with marijuana, and the parent as society.<br /> <br /> Tada.<br /> <br /> Of course, it's possible that there will be a bunch of people who don't follow this idea, but hey.
