The NEW Riddler
Started By
There is a debate going on about the new Riddler, and how the artists are taking our own opinions on it. Personally, the new riddler is just so bland. It's a dog with a tongue hanging out, very clearly panting.

So, do you like the new riddler? Or do you dislike it? Please post a nice, descriptive comment why or why not. We wouldn't want to be accused of having our own opinions, now would we?

---

My Opinion;

The Riddler is boring. Why? It's pose lacks excitement, as it's just standing there with a paw lifted in the air. This is such a common pose, and seen almost everywhere. Couldn't you have thought of anything better? Maybe it jumping or having a pose that looked like it had creativity put into it? Also, I think you could have chosen a better animal than an Aussie. Didn't we have a Suggestion thread for the new Riddler? I'm more than sure it WASN'T an Aussie. And going on to the facial expression, it looks as if it's just panting, rather than looking anything other than that.

Also, what angers me is the fact that most all the artists believe that we don't appreciate what they've done when we do. You can't just say that our different opinions are hate comments and mean we are unappreciative of your work. We ALL have different feelings on things, and you shouldn't say that because we don't agree with you that we are hating on the work.

Bridgette, for one, you can't compare something like someone inviting you into their home to something as subjective as art.

Can I point out that your comment here -

"...."I also agree that is has no emotion"
"the face freaks me out"
"boring and emotionless"

There is more but I can't get it to show more posts. ..."

- is completely out of context? You make it sound as though they came in saying OMG IT SUX IT HAS NO EMOTION!!!1 when in reality those people said nice things about the art as well as expressing what they didn't like about it. Any artist should be able to take criticism.

"So I can absolutely see why artists would feel unappreciated. Instead of us just saying oh that's wonderful art. Everyone has to put some little comment about what they DONT like. After everyone who is online posts something like that... that's a whole lot of negative comments and it would hurt me too. "

Why should we lie if we dislike it and say "oh it's just wonderful art"? Why shouldn't we point out something that we believe could be improved? Especially given the fact that they put a comments section into the news - a place for us to have an opinion on the matter. You can't seem to handle the idea that yes, you will get negative comments. I hope the site artists aren't like that and can handle it. It's a fact of life, and I honestly think it's worse to sugarcoat something instead of giving legitimate constructive criticism.

Nobody is hating on the work. Nobody is being rude to the artists. The only people I've seen being rude are the people telling us we all need to shut up and not say anything negative because we might hurt somebody's feelings and implying that anyone who dislikes the art is doing something horribly wrong and mean.

If they didn't want to hear our opinion on the news, why have the comment section? :|

Bridgette, will you please stop comparing homemaking to art? They are handled too differently to be comparable.
For example:
If I were to handle the food situation like I would art, I would tell them all the flaws in preparation and taste so that they would know they made a mistake and they would strive to improve.
Other wise they would continue to keep making the same mistakes. Just because you might hurt some feelings doesn't mean you should not do it if it is to help them. If you didn't care about them at all you'd let them go on making the same mistakes over and over and never bothering to tell them they should fix anything.

I don't think that the riddler is boring per say. I just think he doesn't stand out as anything more than a normal site dog. The art is beautiful in my opinion and not lacking anything. On the other hand I kind of expect NPC's to stand out and have qualities that make them distinct. Which, is a very personal stance that I don't think everyone agrees with.

I am not displeased with the new Riddler though. Again, I love to look at it because the art is amazing. Maybe just not exactly what I would have came up with if I had been given the choice.

As an added note I do not agree with people posting their opinions on the News post. It wasn't asking for opinions so to me it seems unappreciative for people to complain there. Not to mention I feel that it is rude.

Think about this in a real life scenario.

Lets say you make dinner for someone. Acceptable responses usually range from it's good, great, ok, not bad, amazing right? What if every time you made dinner someone said the noodles are overcooked, you didn't use enough basil, and I didn't have quite enough parmesan cheese?

Or what if you invited someone over to your house and was giving them a tour. People usually respond with "Oh you have a lovely home." Or they pick out SOMETHING that they like and leave it at that. Or maybe they even just nod. How do you feel if someone goes room to room and says "Ugh, oh my gosh when was the last time you dusted?" or "This room is just boring" or even "Hmmm, I this picture doesn't work in this room. Lets move it to a different room"... I am SURE you would be offended. It's not acceptable to give
critiquing opinions like that in the real world. UNLESS of course they are asked for.

So I can absolutely see why artists would feel unappreciated. Instead of us just saying oh that's wonderful art. Everyone has to put some little comment about what they DONT like. After everyone who is online posts something like that... that's a whole lot of negative comments and it would hurt me too.

I understand where people are coming from. We like to give our opinion (which is why I was excited to post here my opinion by the way) and we try to do so in a such a way that it isn't offensive. Sometimes though opinions are better left to yourself. Again, unless they are asked for. There is a time and place for opinions. This is a more than acceptable place for opinion... heck it was asked for. The news page a place where staff was excited to show us something they thought we would like was not.
