Legalizing Marijuana???

it's bad for your heart and Kills and Fries your brain cells. and frankly i think [most] people are stupid enough as it is. now im not saying if you smoke pot you're an idiot, my father smoked pot and was a Brilliant man. im saying it's ashame because i believe he would have been Twice as brilliant and lived Twice as long. his heart was Too weak. now how ever, i don't like the idea of putting them all in jail as i stated before it's too crowded and a waste of tax payers money. i say we fine anyone caught illegally smoking pot. im not saying $75, im saying $500+ (it should cost more then a speeding ticket ;) )). as for 'medical' pot, don't make me laugh. i hate doctors who proscribe it. there are so many different alternatives! plus i know of cases where a person was high from smoking pot andwhoa thered women and other cases where a person was high off pot and killed a person(s) and people are irresponsible and could be high while doing Anything including working machinery or driving or doctoring or even teaching.

Legalize it. I know a case of legal marijuana where is CURED a cancer patient, it's called my own aunt. She refused any other treatments, used medical marijuana and no sign of cancer. Boom. More and more states are accepting it and are debating legalizing it. It's a major income booster, and lots of Americans honestly either don't care or might would like to see it legal.
It's A HUGE SOURCE OF INCOME, and would provide much needed JOBS

I'm Dutch an marijuana is legal (to a certain extent) here. You'd think that It would be made illegal if it was so dangerous. My parents used to smoke weed and as far as I know they do not have any permanent health issues because of it. In the Netherlands, people sell weed in coffeeshops, and they have some couches in front of the stores where stoned people can chill out with friends. They don't bother anyone and they are usually just chilling out, not attacking people and all that. I've never had any problems with marijuana use and I don't understand why you should have because stoned people tend to not cause alot of legal issues. I think countries should loosen up when it comes to marijuana

"but do you people know how messed up weed-smokers are when they are smoking?"

I do. They lay around and ask people to go buy them chips and donuts.

The thing is, no one knows the effects of smoking marjuana yet. It was the same with smoking cigarettes and cigars back in the 60's. I'm not even gonna bother arguing because I'm too lazy to type a lot, but do you people know how messed up weed-smokers are when they are smoking? It's not... natural, to smoke stuff like that. It's not NORMAL, and it should not be legalized. Especially if there are children involved...

Our society is so messed up.

"however I don't think it would make someone go out and kill people lol."

It wouldn't. Not unless the person was already prone to doing such things or suffers from some sort of mental disorder.

Ah yeah that's true with sativa.. however I don't think it would make someone go out and kill people lol.

"I don't understand what you mean. Marijuana is not like stimulant drugs, it doesn't make people energetic and aggressive.. it makes them tired."

It depends on the marijuana. Some makes you sleepy and some makes you hyper.

"it's bad for your heart and Kills and Fries your brain cells."
Can you cite your sources on this? This is the first that I've heard that marijuana use is bad for your heart.
Inhaling any sort of smoke, regardless of what kind... bonfire smoke, cigarette smoke, burning tires, marijuana, your own hair on fire, lol... it will all damage your lungs
However, there is not one case of someone getting lung cancer from marijuana, and there is no evidence that it "kills braincells".

"as for 'medical' pot, don't make me laugh. i hate doctors who proscribe it. there are so many different alternatives!"
Marijuana is a natural plant and has been shown to help people with cancer and even slow brain aging (contradicting your previous point about "killing brain cells"). Marijuana is not harmful.

"plus i know of cases where a person was high from smoking pot andwhoa thered women and other cases where a person was high off pot and killed a person(s)"
I don't understand what you mean. Marijuana is not like stimulant drugs, it doesn't make people energetic and aggressive.. it makes them tired.

I'm all for legalizing it. It will save the U.S money, be beneficial to the people of the U.S in terms of not going to jail for something harmless and is an all around good thing in my opinion. If no one has died from it and there are no negative affects why should it be illegal?

Even the US Army knows marijuana isn't going to kill you or else it wouldn't have tested weapons grade synthesized marijuana on its own soldiers. The army found the effects to be "too mellow" to be used as an incapacitating agent for use on the enemy.

"Ketchum says the Army phased out the hallucinogen project in about 1972, in part because disclosure of such research would have caused a "public relations problem."

Ketchum's notes suggest the Army's fears were not imaginary. They describe soldiers on "red oil," an especially powerful form of marijuana, who smirked for hours and found even routine spatial reasoning tests to be hilarious."

Marijuana concentrated down into an oil, and all the soldiers really did was find everything funny, it seems - rather than dropping over dead or being anywhere near incapacitated. No one suffered any physical health problems from these tests - not from the concentrated pot, and not even from the concentrated LSD, though the latter might have caused some mild psych problems as mentioned on that page. This stuff was much more intense than anything the average person is ever going to get their hands on, and everyone was physically fine. Psychologically fine, too, as far as the intensified THC went.

Wikipedia is a perfectly acceptable source because it quotes reliable sources on the page. That is actually linked to a study (there was a citation number listed that I removed: 18).

But marijuana, itself, has never killed a human being nor contributed to the death of a human being in a way other than perhaps impairing reaction time. That, alone, is not enough reason to demonize it as a "cause" at all.

11-12-2011 at 8:20 PM
A wiki isn't the most reliable source by a long shot. Can't even use those in college.

Be that as it may, there are plenty of reported deaths where it contributed to said death. Which is why I think it should be taken with some caution, which, at least around here, it often is not.

No, no one has ever OD'd on marijuana. People have OD'd on THC, but only when it is synthetically recreated and distilled into a ridiculously high concentration. There were synthetic THC pills that killed 4 people. No one has ever died of THC overdose simply from smoking, and - in fact - to do so is impossible. One would have to smoke so much that one would simply pass out from lack of oxygen before actually ODing.

Driving while intoxicated is the fault of the driver, not the substance. Alcohol kills millions, yet it is legal.

Edit, because I'm a stickler for sources:
There has never been a documented human fatality from overdosing on tetrahydrocannabinol or cannabis in its natural form. However, the synthetic THC pill Marinol was cited by the FDA as being responsible for 4 of the 11,687 deaths from 17 different FDA approved drugs between January 1, 1997 to June 30, 2005.

"Marijuana has never killed anyone, in all of history."

While I'm not against smoking it as I don't much care one way or another, that's a lie. Overdosing on Marijuana is EXTREMELY rare but it has happened.

Lets not forget that there have also been car crash related deaths which were caused by someone being high on Marijuana, which is to blame on someones poor judgment and stupidity, but if they hadn't been high while driving it probably wouldn't happen.

But all in all, deaths by Marijuana are so much less than lets say, cigarettes? /end before an off-topic rant starts

Marijuana has never killed anyone, in all of history.

And suicide is, in fact, against the law in many places.

11-11-2011 at 6:38 PM
I think they should legalize it, it's the person's problem if they die from it. They shouldn't get into others life and stop them from doing what they want, kill themselves, have at it. Suicide isn't against the law. Not saying that this is gonna kill people but it can and it's the person who choses what they want, others should never choose another person's fate.

Just to play devil's advocate, the "it's just a plant" front is kind of a silly objection if you think any drug should be illegal.

Firstly, tobacco is a natural plant. The additives in cigarettes are not. That's why hand-rolled cigarettes are far less harmful than store bought.
Secondly, and more importantly, many drugs are natural plants or chemicals that occur without any human intervention. Cocaine is made from the leaves of the coca plant. Psilocin shrooms are naturally found in many places in the world. Opium is made of poppy bulbs, mescaline and peyote are from cacti, and iboga root has the same hallucinogenic and euphoric effects of heroin. Additionally, many toxic things are perfectly natural: mushrooms (easily mistaken for psilocin-containing ones), belladonna (deadly nightshade), hemlock, and wormwood, among a ton of others. Even strichnine is derived from a plant family.

That having been said, I'm (obviously) not implying that cannabis is toxic, and I'm all for the legalization of it. Just a heads up, because I've heard that argument turned around and used against legalization.

In my opinion it should be legalized. Aha, this is a late post it seems like but oh well. I think it should probably be not allowed to smoke on the road though. I mean, it all depends on the person. I don't know if anyone has stated this already, bt it's a plant, a natural plant (unless you put tabacco and such in it of course), why make a natural plant illegal? It's like, saying someone can't be a brunette, ahaha, I hope people understand what I'm trying to say.... But anyways, sometimes it's fun when it's illegal though. Hahahah.

This post makes me giggle a bit. For a while I smoked pot myself with a few friends until my doctor actually put me on medical marijuana for my severe ADHD. My body can't handle normal medications and if I have to take them it has to be in small doses but marijuana helps me actually concentrate rather than be cloudy-minded.

100% legalize.

Edit; Nevermind, Jive beat me to posting what I was going to say. XD
