Puppy dies after 3 hours locked in sweltering Car

"Animal cruelty charges are being considered after the death of a six-month-old puppy found locked inside a sweltering car.

RCMP were called to the B.C. Institute of Technology campus in Burnaby on Saturday, where they found the puppy unconscious inside a car that had heated to 68 C.

Police say the sunroof was cracked open, but the young animal had been inside the car that was parked in direct sunlight for about three hours.

The owners were located just before police were called, and they unlocked the car and rushed the pet to a veterinarian, but it succumbed to the heat and died.

Police say the incident is a reminder to pet owners that it's unsafe to leave animals locked in a vehicle for any length of time during summer weather.

The B.C. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which also responded to the dog-in-distress call, are investigating whether charges should be laid."

What would you do if you found a dog or a puppy trapped inside a car? Would you brake out the dog? Would you call the police?

(Wishes she could like Noir's post)

I would probably break out the animal, and then try to find it's owners. Once owners where found, I would remind them how hot a car gets. Then I would get nasty and go off on my way, calling the SPCA as I went.

if i believed the dog was on its death bed, i would pull a sludge hammer out of my trunk and break a window and save it and those ignorant abusers won't see that dog again! if it's not on the death bed, and it's just in a bad situation, i'll literally wait for 15 minutes then if they don't come back, i call the cops. cops have told me too bad so sad and they don't care, then i try to break the animal out and rescue it. i've seen my father get Extremely angry when he saw people abusing dogs, so protecting them no matter what comes naturally from how i was raised.

I most certainly agree with Fox. Exactly what I would do The safety of that animal's life is at risk. Nothing is more precious than life itself.

Time to bash in a window with a brick.

I completely agree with you Fox. I would do that too, I don't care if the owner charges me.

I'd break the animal out and then call the police. Sure, I may face legal charges as well, but it would be worth it if it made the difference for the animal, for me at least. Especially if the animal seemed to be in bad condition. The police can be incredibly slow to respond in many situations, and breaking into the car to help the animal could be the difference between life and death for said animal.
