Polls for new breeds
Honestly, I hate when there is a poll for a new breed. I do like new breeds to be added and our choices, but a few reasons why...
-People post adverts saying 'Vote for [breed name here] [Insert comment here] [insert picture here]'. -When one person brings it up in chat, chat is all about future breeds to come and about the poll.
Solution ?
A private poll for new breeds. Yep, Private. You can still vote the way it is, but the answers are hidden so people don't go about it in chat like, '[breed name here is winning]!! *dances*' and stuff. Then when the poll is over, they say who the winner is.

The polls are a way to drum up excitement for the new breed and ultimately $$$ for the site.

Yeah I don't get why people think others need to be told who to vote for - especially appalling are the ones where people are bribing others to vote for a certain breed.

Would much prefer Admin just pick a breed and release it when it's ready.

Hm, yeah, I just had no clue about that Carni, lol. xD

But I do understand your reason. The ads do get annoying after a while.

I honestly highly doubt that a private poll would stop "vote for" adverts.

Also, with your Obama comparison, I'm afraid you're incorrect. During presidential elections, you already get an idea of who's going to win before it's announced, thanks to the media coverage which shows red states and blue states, which means those are the states whose majority are supporters either for a democratic or republican party. While you may not get an exact number, you get to see which party is outnumbering the other in state approval rates. And there's tons of campaigning, people posting things in their front yards and slapping stickers on their bumpers saying "vote for so and so!"

There's really no reason to keep the votes private, and by keeping the polls public, it also allows us to go into the database and make sure no one is cheating, or if someone -does- manage to cheat, then we knock out the extra votes. When we host votes off-site, there's no way we can keep track of anything fishy.

Also, we can not and will not -always- put up breeds purely based on highest support on Alacrity, as many people may support a breed that would not make a great addition to Alacrity, such as a breed with barely any markings. We also insert breeds that maybe no one has suggested before, because that allows for some variety and introducing a breed people may've just not thought of before, but could gain support.

Much like presidency, you don't always get to hand pick the people running for office, but you can vote for whatever you'd prefer out of the lineup and see where things go.

If the adverts annoy you, don't worry, they'll stop as soon as the poll has run its course.

Support! I also think that they should be the top supported breeds in the poll, last time I checked, the Chinese Crested was not one of them

Exactly Welshie - Number of votes for these polls should be hidden, or the 'Vote for __' ads should be against the rules.

I like to think of the polls like you are electing a new president in the US...I highly doubt people went like 'Vote for Obama!' or whatever for it.

But as I think, about 80 or so percent of the ads are about the breeds, which makes it that normal advertisements don't show up as much, which could be why some items/dogs are selling. But this is my guess.
Of course when ads come up is random, most of the time the breed ads may come up.
Support,

Would the numbers be hidden? But my question is how would it keep people from making adverts about voting for them? If a rule was implemeted about not allowing this is would cause people to vote for what they wanted, not what the advert tells them do because of *this picture*

It might not, but it could help about people randomly stating it in chat.
Or the 'Vote for ___' ads could be forbidden...I dunno. :p
