Al needs REAL corgi help
Al's dad is perfectly okay with her getting a corgi as long as she pays for at least half of it.
Now, I need to know, if I get the dog during the summer of 2013, when do I speak to a breeder?
What do I ask?
How do I find a good one?

So basically your dad is paying for everything? And then you're having 1k to live off of? Is he paying for dog food, vet visits, and training (if you want to take it to classes), gas, if something happens to your car? I got my puppy in the fall and got a job soon after. I barely had enough money after a few months because of how expensive things were like all the puppy shots when they're young, food, toys, and everything else. I also didn't get a pure breed so she was cheaper and came spayed from the rescue.

Maybe I'm just used to not having much money to work with but I hope you get a whole financial plan down. Find out how much you're income is and how much you are willing to spend in each area along with trying to get a savings going with a percentage of the income. I think you said you're in school for business? If I remember right xD. So you should know what I mean xDD

Seconding what Shadow Wolf said. Not to mention, it takes a LOT of money and time to breed/raise puppies with a whole bunch of risks tacked on the side
I wouldn't be concerned with breeding when the dog aint even in your possession yet.

Also I just wanted to comment on this.

"I'm going to be extremely careful with which dog I choose because I would like to possibly breed him/her in the future."

I'm not going to get into this much but wanted to point out, most reputable, respectable breeders are going to sell their puppies to pet homes on a spay/neuter contract. If someone is selling you a puppy with full breeding rights that's a red flag right there.

yea, he's paying for that. Also, I get over $1k in check form every semester because of financial aid.

And with the ability to drive, I'll be able to get a job. Also, the car is fully paid off so I'm not paying for it, and the insurance is extremely little.

Is he paying for all other things too like food? I mean.. that all gets rather expensive and you'll be surprised at how quickly prices all add up..

My dad is paying for the apartment. He figured that I'd be saving about $4k for him a year by moving out. Also, I'm getting the dog, hopefully, about 4 months prior to me moving.

I'm going to speak to the breeder when I visit them during spring break (in two weeks)

Moving out and getting a dog around the same time? Sounds very pricey.. Perhaps you should hold off the dog a bit longer or hold on moving out?

I would buy a dog that maybe is the bitch's second litter (lots of space between the two of course!) with possibly the same stud. That way you may be able to contact some of the first litter pup's owners to see if there are any health issues.

yea, I've come to realize that. :/

But no matter the case, something like that isn't going to stop me from getting the dog that I really desire. If that was the case, I wouldn't get any dog xD
