Wanderer (Fantasy RP-closed to new members for now)

Blade trudged though the deep snow. His toes had almost gone numb in the cold, and the night air was closing around him. He stopped briefly to survey his surroundings in the hopes of getting his bearings, but the blizzard like conditions were still too bad to see far though the falling snow, and the wind whipped around him too unpredictably to follow any kind of sent trail. He sighed and continued on. He was sure he had seen mountains in this direction, and maybe there he would find shelter. A cave, or perhaps simply some trees, anything but the open terrain he was currently in. He shivered, shifting part of the blanket of snow that had turned his yellow coat white. What was he doing in a place like this? He belonged to a place far away from here, a much warmer place, a place that seemed like a world away now. He had no right to be in a place like this, with so much snow, and certainly without his winter coat. He simply wasn’t designed for these conditions! He let the anger simmer gently in the back of his mind, his only source of warmth in this place. It didn’t matter now anyway, the events leading up to this, his quest, his friends… nothing. The only thing that mattered was finding somewhere warm enough that he didn’t die in this frozen hell. A dark shape loomed out of the white out and Blade’s spirits lifted slightly, was this the face of the side of the mountain? If so shelter might not be far off… ((Rules/guidelines: Maximum of three characters, per player, at a time. Minimum reply length of 3 lines. Fantasy and magical characters encouraged. The first few beats were poorly aimed and for a moment Blade thought that he could continue running, but as the dragon positioned himself better in the sky the full force of the air caused him to slip and loose ground. His paws scrabbled desperately at the ground, trying to find purchase on the rock under all the ice and snow. The down draft of the wings also brought up snow so that he couldn’t easily see, so he concentrated on what he could feel. But every time Blade managed to grip onto the stone strong enough to hold his ground, the second he shifted a paw to forward, he lost it again. Two thirds across the arena he finally got a hold strong enough for him to stay in place. This time however Blade didn’t try to move back up towards the dragon but hunkered down low to the ground so that he caused as little wind resistance as possible. He quickly realised that he couldn’t attack Killer under this condition, and he wondered how long Killer could keep the attack up. Blade didn’t think it could be for long, but even if he could, he would probably still have to move in order to finish the assault. Either way, that would mean a drop in the wind speed eventually, and Blade planned to take full advantage of that when it happened. It was the dragon’s turn now, the dog could do nothing but wait.
It was a swing and a miss, Blade must of expected it. This is where having a long neck comes in handy. He was able to watch Blade, moving agilely along. <br /> So he tried something new, to himself anyway. He jumped up and twisted so that he was positioned directly towards Blade and beat down hard with his wings. Trying to blow him off balance.
(lol well that’s good at least, especially since it takes hours to look up all the Scottish spellings. But yes, the Scots can roll there ‘r’s into forever. XD)<br /> <br /> Blade had been expecting Killer to dodge and agilely sidestepped the tail swing by spinning around on the spot when the dragon moved, then leaping over the tail as it came around. He glided over the top with barely a hair width between him and the reptile, and landed on the other side of it. Without missing a step, he turned again and raced around to Killers other side, arching widely from the dragon’s body, but still keeping at that sudden speed. All the while, his eyes stayed firmly fixed on Killer.
((Lol, sorry! I did get the Scottish vibe from him, but I never really got to hear a proper Scottish accent. So I don't know if they roll their "r"s or not.)<br /> <br /> He wasn't ready for this at all, and never liked to start fights. He shrugged, accepting that it's probably for the best.<br /> <br /> “I’m ready!” Blade said, then lunging forward towards Killer. He had to admit he was going pretty fast. Killer hunched down and jumped to the side at the last second. Then used his tail as a club, aiming for Blade's side.
(Hehe, he’s supposed to sound Scottish. ^^; Still, Auryn’s speech pattern is something I’m still working on)<br /> <br /> Blade stood closer to the centre of the ring, his head and tail low in uncertainty. He watched how the muscles rolled under the huge form in front of him and wondered how he was supposed to have any chance against it. Surely even the gentlest flick was going to send him flying! He sighed and steadied himself, he wasn’t used to starting fights for no reason, but he never backed down from them either. Besides, Auryn had said this was important so… he’d just have to try. He considered his opponent more critically now, trying to imagine himself in a situation that made sense to him. Perhaps if he imagined Killer as a large buck he was trying to bring down…. a.. very, <i>very</i> large buck… <i>‘No’</i> he stopped himself before he went back along that mental path. A predator-prey relationship… he could work with that. If outside the line was his family, waiting for him to guide it in…<br /> <br /> Blade smiled to himself, he knew what to do now, his posture subtlety changing into a more confident one. “I’m ready!” He answered and lunged towards the dragon at surprising speed.<br />
He soaked in the words Auryn uttered, no claws, no blood shed. He hadn't fought without attempting to wound before. He had to use his body for this one.<br /> <br /> “Well what are you waiting for?” Auryn said. “get intae the center!” The cat's Rs rolled off like a German or French human, but sounded more like a purr. <br /> <br /> He stepped into the circle in space cadet mode, trying to think of how he's going to do this.<br /> <br /> He came to rest at the back of the circle and turned to face Blade. Rolling his shoulders and stretching out his hind legs.<br /> <br /> "Ready when you are." he spoke in a neutral tone.<br />
“Ai, weil thair are rules o course” the cat replied, the r’s rolling off his tongue like a deep purr.<br /> “Tae start wi, thir battles are only fur training, so thair is nae need tae concern yourself wi winning. I’m sure you both play fought when you were bairns, and this is nae different. Nae need tae fight tae win if there’re nae lasses to impress.” <br /> He paused, he didn’t actually know much about dragons, they where rare everywhere these days, but in the cold of the mountains where he lived they were almost unheard of. He hoped that they played when they were young. He decided to make define it more clearly just in case. He shifted his body and caused a rough circle to be drawn around the plateau, encompassing most of the smooth centre, but avoiding the shaper and more dangerous edges. <br /> <br /> “Tae win all you need tae do is tae cause your opponent tae step outside the line, or tae concede tae you. You can use all o your skills, but thair must be nae drawing o blood. You can bite tae control your opponent, but thair is tae be nae deliberate attempt tae harm them etc. Claws are tae be kept sheathed…” He paused again, looking at the pair in front of him<br /> “…though I suppose that ane doesn’t apply tae either o you. Killer, I don’t know the extent o your skills, but you may have tae be more careful then Blade. Blade, you are tae concentrate on trying tae use tae powers instead o just biting like a feral beast. I shall watch from here and intervene if it gets tae ruff.”<br /> <br /> He sat back and grinned at them. The silence that followed seemed to fill the air with uncomfortable emptiness and Blade shiffed uneasily under it.<br /> <br /> “Well what are you waiting for?” Auryn said. “get intae the center!”
Fight? The thought worried him slightly, he has never 'wrestled' per-say....He stopped in his tracks for a moment recalling all his battles. They'd all been battles to the death.<br /> <br /> <br /> "Uhm..." he said with slight awkwardness, "How exactly are we doing this? Just fighting? When should I stop....And should I go easy, hard? Offensive or defensive?"<br /> <br /> ((Lol, how odd.))
((lol not sure what happened there))
“Tae harness powers definitely.” The cat responded, pausing briefly to negotiate some particularly difficult terrain. “It’s fur Blade here mainly. Most o oor kind are either born wi’ the gifts or no o course, but the laddie has only recently come intae thaim.” He bounded across the rocks effortlessly following his chosen path. “Gave us all a start when he did… though now he hasn’t a clue how, so here I am, tae teach him what he should have learnt from a wee bairn. But nae need to be bletherin’ on aboot it no, we’re here.”<br /> <br /> He stopped at the edge of a large plateau, almost completely flat except for a few larger boulders around its edge, the black stone contrasting strongly against the unbroken snow. Blade came up behind him, and looked out across the screen.<br /> “So what do we do now?” he asked the little cat. <br /> Auryn climbed up onto one of rocks fringing the edge so that he was at eye level with the canine.<br /> “What do ye think? You fight!” He purred.
