Thread Closings
I have noticed a trend in the thread closings over the last few months. Almost all off the threads I am referring to have been closed when certain person(s) come in and starts spouting off their opinions as fact and then yelling at others and saying they are wrong when they cannot provide any proof for their own argument. (I'm saying proof, just because I think a debate should be based on facts and not just opinions.) Obviously people argue back but it tends to degrade from there into a huge bleep-fest, and the the thread being locked in the end.
Do you feel it is fair for the rest of us to have our debates shut down because certain person(s) almost always cause the thread to be closed? Why should all of us be punished and have to stop debating about something because of said person(s)? I've counted several threads thus far that this has happened in, and all involved the same person(s).
Please, please, please leave names out of this. It isn't meant to be a personal attack on anyone, but I am getting highly aggravated at more and more threads being closed because of drama that is almost always associated with said person(s). I am just curious how others feel on this topic.
WHile one person may start it others continue to reply to the person in aggressive, insulting and other inappropriate ways. It's not always who started it but also who kept the fire burning. If you want the threads to stay open then ignore the trouble makers.

Lately, yes i agree with the thread closing. If they were not closed it would have just sunk even lower from there. Because no matter the warnings people would not stop or change their behavior. Same with some of the edited posts. Compared with everything that was not edited out, i'd be very scared to see what they did edit out =/

After a certain point, i do feel it should be blamed on the person and not the topic. Some topics just aren't conductive to a civil debate. While some are, and its some people who ruin it time and time again.

I'm not sure if it is just because some people can't accept that someone doesn't agree with them and they drag out it and just continuously go back and forth with no real end in sight. Or If just yelling at each other is what people consider a debate, but something must be done to let them know, they aren't really 'debating'.

I rarely actually post in a debate thread because i don't want everything i say twisted and just have people yelling at me because they think differently. I personally find this kinda sad =/
I agree, I find it unfair as well. I enjoy a good levelheaded debate and dislike seeings threads get closed.

I don't like seeing the threads closed, but sometimes (as was the case with the most recent couple of closures) it seems necessary that something be done to stop the bickering. If it's left open, everyone will gravitate further and further apart and it'll all turn into a screaming match, and that's not healthy for anyone involved...

I don't like it. I don't like the thread closings and I especially do not like moderators editing posts.

In fact, every time I see it, I get a bit more angry.

Yeah, anyways, back on topic. I think it's hugely unfair. I love to debate. I spend a ton of time researching different controversial subjects in my spare time and the like, and of course, most of the boards that get locked are the ones focusing on the most controversial issues. I love being able to go from feeding and taking care of a virtual dog to taking part in a hugely serious debate incredibly interesting and open. Pet sites I was on in the past didn't allow debate threads, or strictly limited them and it drove me crazy.

This debate will be allowed to continue if it stays on the topic of the debate board's behavior and NOT aimed at players.

(this is just a warning as I see it is quickly getting out of hand)

Jambers please step out of this thread, you are trying to cause drama and there is no need. As I pointed out, this thread is not about anyone in particular. It is about whether everyone should have to stop debating because a few people ruin it for everyone or not.
