What being asexual is like
I've had a hard time describing a lack of interest in sex to my friends who like it, and just now I came up with a perfect example, to put sexual people in the shoes of an asexual person.
Imagine 99% of people found picking their partners nose to be the height of showing affection, rather than sex. Its implied in almost all ads, its in a large portion of movies, there are heaps of songs about it, everyone talks about it constantly, and people can't imagine someone who does not want to pick other peoples noses. If you have no interest in other peoples noses, congratulations, you should now understand asexuality. (Of course, this example only works, if you don't fantasise about picking other peoples noses.)

In response to BrutalMutt, asexuals (like me) are only interested in romantic relationships. Some may still have sex with their significant other (which I don't really understand) but that doesn't mean that they feel sexual attraction to their s.o.

As long as their partner is also asexual, or will respect the fact that they are not interested in a sexual relationship, yes, any asexual can get married. It's personal preference, I don't want to get married, but that's not because I'm asexual.

Also, yes, a large majority of asexuals do eep, as do I. I can't speak for everyone, but I personally have an incredibly low 'sex drive' and will only eep maybe once or twice a month. I don't understand at all why a lot of people do it once or even multiple times a day. I also find that very few things arouse me and stimulation is merely for the sensation alone.

Hope that helped. c:

I myself feel comfortable with doing things like cuddling and hugging and even pecks on the lips.

But making out, having sex, and doing other things that are sexual are just *shudders*

Now, I wouldn't mind getting married. But I can't imagine actually doing things with someone. Or to myself as well.

Brutal: It really all depends on the person. the only thing that all asexuals have in common is "I have no desire to pick another persons nose" they might still want affection in other ways, they might like to pick their own nose. and they also might not. (but if you know someone who doesnt want sex, and doest want a non-sexual relationship, then that person also falls under the category of 'aromantic')

This is going to sound weird, but I think that your example is the first thing that made me understand what things are like for asexual people, but this is going to make me ask stupid questions.

So yeah asexual people like affection. Do they want to get married. And if so, is there other sexual things they like besides intercourse, or only nonsexual bonding?

And umm.. this is probably more personal, but does that mean they don't like to stimulate themselves?

Maybe the answer to both of those is it depends on the person. Or maybe some people wouldn't be asexual depending on their answer. I don't know, I am just trying to understand so when my friends mention that (cuz I do know asexual people) I won't make it awkward by asking them, and make it seem too personal.

I get what you mean Thy. A good portion of the time I'm not as interested about it and feel nothing but then other times I love it and get what other people mean about it being awesome.

I thought you used an interesting comparison

Al,I've tried that, but then people usually simply say "Wow. I can't even imagine that." So....

I guess it works...

but why use an example when one can just say that being asexual means that you don't have any desire for sex? Its the same as not having no desire for nose picking.

Yeah but the argument against that could be "but picking your nose doesn't feel like the best thing in the world"
