I hate kids
Sooo decided not to put this in the regular forums, on account of there are so many kids on Ala.Anyway. I actually can't stand the kids in my neighbourhood, at all. They have absolutely no respect for anything. Cars, in particular. I can't even tell you how many times I've nearly hit a child playing on the road as I've come around a bend. Some of them don't even move when you honk the horn at them. They have zero situational awareness, and apparently were never taught road safety. Even scarier is the fact that the older kids, in their early teens/preteens are left in charge of watching children of three and four. Three and four year olds play on the STREET while their siblings kick footballs 10 feet away. They run out infront of cars.
Someone is going to get killed. It's not like they stick to the nice wide straight bits, either. Some of them even play a game that involves throwing things at cars. And the thing that really baffles me is, how do their parents not realise the danger these kids are in? How can they be so irresponsible and not supervise their children? It's only a matter of time before someone is hit by a car, but that shouldn't have to happen for some basic road safety to be taught.
And another thing... One little girl happened to be riding her bike past when I was unloading my birds from the car. She followed me into my house. I was quite happy to let her look at the various animals I've got, but she started trying to open cages without asking.
At one point I was feeding one of the soft release birds (birds who are living wild but come back for support feeds) and she ran downstairs to where my rats were and got out one of my rats. That in itself was an idiot thing to do, as some of my rescue ratties can be a bit nippy and aren't keen on being picked up (let alone squeezed by a kid) but it is an absolute no-no when the birds are nearby, as my rats are perfectly capable of killing a young bird and will do it without hesitation. There's also the risk of spreading disease, as the birds are wild animals. I have strict washing-up procedures between handling any of the wild birds and then handling my pets.
Anyway, this kid just would not leave. And she keeps coming back, and knocking on the door, usually when I'm right in the middle of sticking a tube down something's throat. And she watches for my car. Most annoying thing ever, because she just won't get the hint that I have a lot of stuff to do.
I don't even think her parents know what she's doing. I could have been a pedophile, and all it took to lure her into my house was a pigeon, for crying out loud. And they don't even have a clue. When I was a kid we were taught not to approach strangers, certainly not alone, and definitely not to enter their homes.
/end rant about these kids today.
I feel so much better for having written all that down.
