A point of fact before we go any further: A Tiger and a Lion are NOT members of the same species, as claimed by an earlier post. Tigers and Lions share a Genus but are members of the species tigris and leo respectively.<br /> <br /> And if a history book claimed someone was conducting themselves in such a way as to frequently violate all known laws of physics, someone probably would question its veracity and request citations of source and examination of said documents. The difference is that with a history book, those things are required for review and publication, as they are with any academic article or tome. I think that's probably why people would have issues taking the bible as an historical document. Historians are big on independent verification and all that academic type stuff. <br /> <br /> That said, I don't have a problem with evolution, my existential issue lies herein; From where did the first self-replicating matter come? How was there suddenly something that...well, lived, after all that time of dormant minerals and molecules and the such? How did a cell come to be?
I believe in reasonable "evolution," or adaptation, if you will. A cat to a dog (or whatever you call a reasonable, species-evolution), no. But a tiger to a lion, within a species, I consider.<br /> <br /> I don't mean to offend, but simply, my opinion of Evolution AND Creationism... <br /> God created man, beasts of the earth, fowl of the air, creatures of the sea- he states that. It does not state that they evolved from one another. Selective, luck breeding may lead to variations, naturally... In a forest, a white deer is least likely to survive as it will be targeted by predators, and therefore, dark deer are likely to thrive. Natural selection, is that what it's called? Bother...<br /> <br /> I also feel the need to state... well, yet again, this coming from my opinion.<br /> But those who only consider PART of the Bible is true (excluding the obvious, stated parables)... Would you take a history book and decide that Hitler never existed? I believe in Adam and Eve. I do not think it was a silly parable or story, or whatever you call it. My argument is the history book. The Bible is an ancient history book... the only difference is that it goes back so far that people can start to question whether it happened or not. I question whether this will also happen years into the future for us, where people start considering Hitler to be only a story - perhaps, moreso than they already do - and etc. etc.
they did evolve but only to there inviroments and i only believe in creation not that an ameba gave birth to a fish that gave birth to a monkey then that gave birth to a human i only beleive that god made earth and its animals and plants and then left them to evolve to there enviroments following them every step of the way.
Zan is definitely right - you can believe in both creation and evolution. I definitely do. I believe that God created the world, set everything in motion, if you will, and then let everything evolve to where it is today. I also don't think he only did that on our planet (why would an omnipotent being put all his eggs in one basket?), but that's a different debate entirely :P<br />
Yes, they can Rev, or there's way too many people out there who are defying what you think.<br /> <br /> They think exactly what Tiger said. They don't think that the Adam and Eve thing is literal. They believe god created everything and then the progression happened because god set it up that way. Evolution was the product of gods beginning of that which started the universe.<br /> <br /> To say someone cannot believe in both, combining their beliefs, is already proven wrong since people do. I've met them.
Rev, creation and evolution can exist together, if your god created the world and everything in it that was however many thousand/million years ago, he could have created everything that existed at that time and left it to evolve from there. Evolution doesn't always mean from primordial ooze to humans, it also takes into account small changes over a few hundred years including domestic dogs. Look at Chihuahuas they use to be wolves O_O

ZJ, one can believe in both God and evolution, but Creation and evolution cannot be combined. It's impossible. One started without death, the other with death. To combine the two is impossible, but one can choose to believe it if he/she wishes to.<br /> <br /> One can believe in Santa Claus, but it doesn't make him real. Basing your beliefs off of truth is vital, otherwise your belief system is faulty.<br /> <br /> And what is true? Who can define what is true? I personally believe that true science is what can be believed in, and personally, Creation is backed up with a whole bunch of science.<br /> <br /> I've posted about it on pages back. So god would have started it all, gravitational pull would have been put into place by god, yadda yadda.<br /> <br /> What is so wrong with choosing to believe in both? I certainly don't but I'm not going to condemn someone for believing to think that there is a god and in evolution and science. It's a good thing, we should be embracing these people as they've learned to balance their believes with what the science has proven to be true.<br /> <br /> It feels like in this world there's a lot of great people who admit they believe in a god but also know evolution is real, and yet it seems that they get condemned or mocked because god doesn't exist and could not have created anything. I don't think I've poked my head in here yet.<br /> <br /> I'm agnostic, personally, and I strongly believe in evolution :) So much proof supporting it, so little in the way of creation.<br /> <br /> Just my two cents :)
